The mobile health or "mHealth" movement is poised to revolutionize modern healthcare. New companies are emerging across the spectrum: wellness apps, chronic disease management, hospital productivity tools, and big data analytics. Where are the opportunities? What are the pitfalls? What are the practical considerations? Who will be the winners?
Mr. Antti Korhonen will provide his unique perspective on how mHealth is dramatically transforming healthcare workflow and the opportunities driving it. Mr. Korhonen is a healthcare entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience in the IT and Health technology industry. He is the Managing director at TakeHill Partners, and former President and CEO of Ekahau, a company that he built from a Finland based university spin-off to a leader in Wi-Fi based tracking solutions for hospitals.
Mr. Jason Brooke will talk about the legal, regulatory and practical issues in implementing mobile technology for healthcare applications. As the industries of mobile and healthcare converge, the concern that new mHealth apps may be harmful to patients and consumers has caused federal agencies to develop a regulatory framework for these innovative technologies. This presentation will summarize the regulatory environment that applies to mHealth developers, with a focus on FDA regulations. Mr. Brooke is the CEO and General Counsel for Vasoptic Medical Inc., a startup medical device company developing a mobile health solution for early detection of diabetic retinopathy. He acted as co-counsel to the mHealth Regulatory Coalition and the CDS Coalition, developing policy recommendations on the regulation of mobile health technology and clinical decision support software. Mr. Brooke continues to lead the coalitions and advise mobile health technology companies as an attorney with Brooke Consulting, LLC.
