Introduction to Victorian Crochet

Crochet is easy to learn and an inexpensive craft, and is suitable for men as well as women -- ever heard of the Crochet Dude? Seriously, come one, come all, and be enthralled!

All you need is a hook, some thread or yarn, and a pair of scissors to get started. In this introductory session I'll provide the tools and materials and teach you the basic stitches to create some sample swatches that you can use for coasters. Or frisbees. There's no pressure to "get it right" so don't worry.

I'll also present some history of Victorian crochet and we can decide what kind of projects we'd like to tackle for future meetups. I'm suggesting my house and we can provide some wine and cheese snacks, but other snackies are welcome. Bring soda if that's your thing, but we also have some awesome home-roasted coffees. One caveat: we have two cockatiels so if anyone is allergic to birds you might not be comfortable. We can put the pests -- er, I mean pets, in another room.

Sorry, hate to bail last minute, but I just got back from my walk to find my dog going into a Vestibular fit again. For her safety, I shouldn't be leaving her alone right now. : (( Grrrrr....

That doesn't sound good. I hope she's feeling better soon.

I would love to come but I have another commitment. I would definitely be interested in scheduling another date/time!

Hi Karen -- I'd love to say Yes but less than 50% chance it will happen. (Lyme makes me notoriously unreliable.) IF I can get there, don't worry about gear, I'll be glad just to listen & meet people (finally).

Sarah, if you do make it, I will gladly donate my goodie bag since I really have a lot of stuff already! : ) I'm also looking forward to finally showing up for something...

      Hi Sarah
Don’t sweat it, but do come if you can. I have lots of stuff so there's plenty of yarn to play with, and I have to run errands tomorrow morning so I can always pick up some extra supplies.

Hi everyone! A few last-minute items. Goody Bags:
I have tons of yarn and crochet hooks to practice with, but I've also made up goody bags so everyone can go home with their own crochet hook and yarn. Late RSVPs:
Chrissy, I've got you covered! But for anyone else, let me know by Friday afternoon so I can pick up more goody bag supplies. Food!
I'll have cheese and crackers, etc., but we could go out for dinner if there's enough interest. Parking
Park in the driveway, or in front if it's already full. Otherwise, please park at the ends of 49th Avenue and not in front of other houses. There's a nice stretch between my neighbor's and the house at 49th Ave. and Lackawanna for at least two cars. We had parking issues when we first moved here and so I don't want to set off Parking Wars Round Two. *le sigh*

Guys are welcome, too, so don't be shy about signing up. We have a Dr. Who Monopoly and a Steampunk game we haven't tried yet if anyone wants to just hang out.

If there's enough interest I can do the intro again or schedule workshops on particular items.
