Extravaganza For Life...

Breaking the Cycle of STIGMA Trans Fashion Show

This is an important trans fashion show Extravaganza event for us to come and support. Kristen Beck, the former Navy Seal whose new book is just out, will host this trans fashion show at an incredible nightclub in Falls Church (near 7 Corners) that has been taken over for this event.  Come dressed as a woman or man and meet everyone.  Please sign up now for you and your guests!

In addition to the fashion show, there will be music, dancing, and drinks from the bar.  Kristen Beck will be greeting each person, so bring your camera and have your picture taken with Kristen.  She is the Honorary Mistress of Ceremonies.

The designers of the fashion show are all trans ladies, and many of their models are beautiful trans women.

This event is for NovaSalud, our Arlington, Virginia-based HIV free testing and awareness programs, and their trans sisters support programs with a full time trans lady social worker.  So this is an important cause in our community.

Just $15 at the door plus there will be wonderful raffle prizes you can contribute for that include jewelry, glamour photography sessions, wine, wine testing sessions, wine classes, brunches, and more.

The event goes until 10pm when the doors open to the public for the nightclub.  There will be a number of ladies who may wish to continue on to Freddie's in Crystal City as the drag show there will have ended.

Tell your friends, and bring them to support this worthy cause.  And have a delightful evening.

The event resembled a drag show more than an actual fashion show. Still it was fun and proceeds went to a good cause.

the models were beautiful and the atmosphere was great. I will admit that the music was a tad too loud. it was hard to hear the person right next to you.

My only reservation is that I'd rather be on the catwalk than underneath it. Is it too late to sign up to model?

I think this event is great. My comment relates to the use of the word "STIGMA". I personally don't feel that being transgender is a stigma (a mark ascribed by others). I reject the notion that others can "brand" me. The latest DSM continues to portray us as having "gender dysphoria"(an emotional state marked by anxiety, depression, & restlessness). I possess no anxiety or depression regarding my gender identity. In fact it gives me great joy, satisfaction, restfulness, confidence, spirit. Gender is assigned at birth based on one's genetic make-up. It is society & customs that dictate how one dresses, presents & adorns oneself, what toys are provided. I reject what society expects if it doesn't comport with how I feel. Being transgender to me is a gift & I say to society "I love it, I don't care"! As Kelly Clarkson sings "It's hard to get high if you're always living on the bottom". We must assert ourselves, be proud of who we are & reject any notion that we are stigmatized.

I have chosen to skip this event, as much as I would have liked to attend, in order to see 'The T Party" at the Round House Theater in Silver Spring on July 20 at 8pm. It is a new play about the transgender community in DC and I have sent out a notice about it if you are interested in attending.
