**I'm pushing this back to 3/2 due to some weather and travel concerns. If you're interested in coming and the weather cooperates, please sign up!**
Join me for a tour through some of the highlights of the northern Shenandoah with a quick weekend excursion in March! With the trailhead just a short drive away, we will be able to enjoy a full day's hike on Saturday, and finish up with another good stretch on Sunday to hit just about 30 miles total. Depending on how quickly we tackle the ascents and cover ground, we might push this one to 35, but there is no need to rush this trip just to cram in a few more miles.
The Plan:
Meet at 8AM sharp at the Vienna Metro station, and begin to make the drive to Keyser Run Rd and the Little Devils Stairs Parking Lot. We'll ascend and cross Skyline drive, and continue up to Overall Run Falls to take in the view, then backtrack to connect over to the Weddlewood Trail. We'll make our way over to the Knob Mountain Trail, which we'll follow until we reach Jeremys Run Trail. We'll make camp there for the night, and then finish off the loop by heading back to the cars via the Piney Ridge Trail. We should be able to finish up by lunch time Sunday, with a return to DC by mid-afternoon.
The splits will probably be about 16 and 12, although I'm basing my totals off of Evan's version of the trip from last year. I'll upload a new set of maps soon showing my modification of the route, but I'm including this link from when he led it so you can get a general picture of the loop (I'm cutting out part of Overall Run and Beecher Ridge to cut a few miles off given the shorter day):

Also, Hikingupward has some information on the campsite at Jeremys Run; we can't have fires, but it looks pretty pleasant (you'll see the photo link in the write-up):

Other Considerations
'Unpredictable' has been the word I'd use to describe this winter; we've had our share of good and bad weather, so be prepared for adverse conditions when deciding to RSVP. I'll cancel the trip if it looks too dicey.
This trip is open to members, so please add your name to the waiting list, and I'll bump you up if you've hiked with the group before. Group size is limited to 8. If this is your first trip of the year, pay your membership dues (under the About Us section) online, and I'll have waiver forms for you to sign if needed. Please email with questions and express interest.

MikeVW planned, and executed a great weekend trip! Good climbs, spectacular views along the way, and some exciting stream crossings. Didn't want to cross them, however, secretly I wanted the experience. Camp site was superb for a smaller group, water was abundant. Post hike meal at Griffin Tavern was great!! Excellent trip!

Really nice area, and good company for the trip! I like Jeremys Run, though I may wait until summer to tackle that trail again!

Just FYI, with the metro opening at 7am and the ride to Vienna being a little over an hour, the earliest I can get there is 8:15 according to wmata.com
