The Priest is on my hiking bucket list, I missed this trip when Holger did it earlier this year, and I’m hoping to get some nice leaf peeping in this fall. All those pieces add up to one obvious conclusion – it's time to head to Three Ridges for a nice fall weekend.
The plan for is for a[masked] split. We’ll meet at Vienna (the north parking lot) at 5:30 p.m., and then make our way south. We will need to set up a bit of a shuttle before night hiking 2.5 miles to Harpers Creek Shelter. Saturday, we’ll have an early start to give us time to tackle two challenging climbs: the trek up Three Ridges and then up The Priest. Saturday night, we'll camp near The Priest shelter. Sunday is more for scenery as we head to Spy Rock for great views of the area and then head downhill to enjoy Crabtree Falls.
Water sources should be decent along the trail.
While the mileages may be short, the elevation gain is considerable on Saturday (6,200 feet). Friday, we’ll have an elevation gain of 1,000 feet, and then 2,000 feet on Sunday. It’s a good challenge so please consider the elevation when signing up. Afterwards, we'll hit Devils Backbone for food and beer.
This trip also will be a book trip for me as I'll be collecting data on day hike options in this area.

Hope you can join! If you haven't been on a trip, I will require that you send me a gear list so we can make sure you are squared away for the weekend. Also, let me know if you need to share or borrow any gear.
