North Fork Mountain - 24 Miles - Shuttle

Anybody interested in hitting the trail the weekend of Sept. 22nd to kick off the start of Fall? I'm back in the area after a long month away and am itching to get outside again. North Fork Mountain is the 24-mile shuttle hike out near Dolly Sods / Seneca Rocks, WV. Supposed to have outstanding ridge views throughout, but there is not water available on the trail, so we'd need to carry enough to last through the hike.

It will probably take about three and a half hours to drive out and stage cars. We'd obviously need at least two cars for the shuttle as well.

We will camp out somewhere around the mid-point (12 miles Sat, 12 miles Sunday).

The pictures for this look great! I need to get out and do this trail sometime. Took Laura out to car camp and do Tibbet Knob over the weekend, so we enjoyed some of the same weather!

Great trail with some spectacular ridge views and sweeping vistas. We had a great crew of backpackers out as well, thanks for joining me!

Fun trip, fun group of guys. Not a hard hike, but a very enjoyable one. Great weather, nice fire. Super weekend.

I went south last time. Sorta seems like cheating to start at the south end of the trail on top of the ridge. The best views are at the north end of the trail, so maybe we just check the weather report and target the north end for the better day.

When did you plan on starting?

Max--It's a three hour drive to Seneca Rocks, so maybe with a quick gas/coffee stop, I'm thinking that we'll rendezvous at about 11:15? I'll shoot you an email...

I could go either way... what's your recommendation?

Are you going north or south? The north end has a 2k foot ascent/descent, but it's not bad. There are campsites on either end of the roadwalk in the middle, which is about half way.

Sorry, should have clarified. It is an overnighter.

I'd like to do the hike if this is a one day hike.
