Describe your backpacking experience and background, please include longest mileage in a day (with pack) and coldest nights out.

I have done a lot of backpacking and day hiking in NH, FL, AZ, WY, VA, NC. I took a NOLS course years ago, and am slowly lightening up my pack. I have slept out in freezing weather, but no experience with pure winter camping (although I am looking forward to it). I have done plenty of winter day hiking in the Whites. I like my miles in the double digits for a satisfying day.

Describe your most recent outdoor adventure. When was it? How did you set it up? Did the weather cooperate? How did it go?

I was out on Adams in December. The weather didn't cooperate, white out conditions just below the summit caused a turn around. Super awesome day, though.

The Big Three: what specific gear (not just brands) do you use for your three-season shelter system, sleep system, and backpack? (It's okay if it isn't ultralight!)

Granite Gear pack; upgrading to a Tarp Tent (or other) for a big trip later this summer; cheap down bag with Mont Bell short sleeping pad; Caldera cone for my current cook system. I have some investments coming up in the next few months, and I am looking forward to getting some recommendations.

Help us understand your reason for joining DC UL Backpacking, including your goals for lightening your load and quickening your backpacking pace.

Mostly looking for resources and ideas from people who are ultralight. I have a Pacific Northwest trip planned for August and could use some suggestions. I'm always looking for company on hikes that are longer and more interesting than some of the other meetup hiking groups.

How did you learn about our group? (I'm trying to improve our visibility, so I'm curious.)
