Introduction

Hi. I'm Mike and I am very passionate about the outdoors and have been since I was a little kid. I worked 8 seasons for the U.S. Forest Service most of this time Colorado. I just returned from backpacking 4 months in Asia

Describe your backpacking experience and background, please include longest mileage in a day (with pack) and coldest nights out.

I was on a trail crew once and we spent 35 nights in the mountains. Longest straight backpacking is 7 days. Most mileage about 30. Coldest night backpacking about 10 degrees.

Describe your most recent outdoor adventure. When was it? How did you set it up? Did the weather cooperate? How did it go?

The Big Three: what specific gear (not just brands) do you use for your three-season shelter system, sleep system, and backpack? (It's okay if it isn't ultralight!)

I have everything. Bivy, Sierra Designs 4 season tent, arct teryx (sp?) backpack and zero degree marmot bag :)

Help us understand your reason for joining DC UL Backpacking, including your goals for lightening your load and quickening your backpacking pace.

Meeting cool people to share the woods with. I've really focused the last 2 years on lightening my load. I did the tundra in Canada about 2 years ago on a 21 day road trip driving aimlessly through Newfoundland and Labrador. I realized that I pack way to much gear. So, even after 20 years of backpacking extensively I'm still learning and having fun along the way.

How did you learn about our group? (I'm trying to improve our visibility, so I'm curious.)

What Mike Korin is saying about this Meetup Group

One of the best scores I have found in a long time. This is a well season group of backpackers that like to share, have fun and promote the sport. I would like to encourage people that are new to ultra light backpacking to come out and try.
