Hi everyone, I am so excited to be part of this group!!! I absolutely love the outdoors. I have been backpacking many times, but most recently all of my fellow backpacking cohorts have left DC and now I have no one to go with (ahh!)
I have backpacked from one to three nights. Honestly, I am not sure what the longest day of hiking was with a pack, but I have traversed the Grand Canyon over four days (unfortunately in Dec, so it was too icy to do rim to rim to rim). I will admit my pack was much too heavy for me at 47 lbs. I would certainly do it differently next time. I have spent several long weekends in Dolly Sods, WV and have woken up with snow on the ground... So I would say my coldest night was the upper 20s F.

I have a Kelty 3 season tent, Gregory Deva backpack, and a Slumberjack 30 degree bag. I need to upgrade my bag... For the Grand Canyon hike I had a synthetic 0 degree bag. Unfortunately, it did not pack small enough. I was thankful for REI's generous return policy, and hope to purchase a down bag soon (I just need a reason to do so!!).
Honestly, I love to backpack. I think there is no greater feeling that being out in the woods with a fire and all of your gear. I would like to learn how to survive ultra light backpacking, as I feel like that is the "pro" thing to do. I am very athletic (marathons, Ironman, Obstacle races, etc), but I enjoy the challenge of backpacking. Unfortunately, I no longer have anyone to go backpacking with, and I am not sure where to start. I want to get better and have more experience backpacking, so I feel like going with a more serious group would be ideal for me. I embrace a challenge and do not complain! :)
