Introduction

The outdoors is like my second home. I love getting out for the weekend on a backpacking trip.

Describe your backpacking experience and background, please include longest mileage in a day (with pack) and coldest nights out.

I've done multiple long distance trails, and have had multiple 20+ mile days, the longest being 30. Don't think I've pulled any nights below 0 yet, but I've done the single digits and teens. They're way better than the days in the 80's!

Describe your most recent outdoor adventure. When was it? How did you set it up? Did the weather cooperate? How did it go?

The Big Three: what specific gear (not just brands) do you use for your three-season shelter system, sleep system, and backpack? (It's okay if it isn't ultralight!)

Frameless or lightweight internal frame pack; tarp, hammock, bivy, or tarp tent; down bag with Exped UL air mat. Base weight is low teens - typical full load is around 20 lbs give or take a few given the conditions

Help us understand your reason for joining DC UL Backpacking, including your goals for lightening your load and quickening your backpacking pace.

Been backpacking for a long time. DC UL is a great way to get myself out backpacking on new trail with great people.

How did you learn about our group? (I'm trying to improve our visibility, so I'm curious.)

What Brian is saying about this Meetup Group

Lots of great backpacking trips with a good group of people, from beginning backpackers to people with 1000's of miles under their belts. The focus is on a bit more physically challenging and rewarding trips - trips that are still well within reach of most people if they remove their mental roadblock regarding what they can actually accomplish. Evenings at camp are always a good time too. I can say that I've pretty much been laughing at some point on any trip I've been on. Lot's of experienced people that are willing to share their knowledge - I'm always learning something new.

  • Thanks for the tips on hiking with poles, and of course for driving. Hope to run into you on a future trip or a frosty cold beverage!

  • Haha I'd be interested to see how you tweak your stove for next time - I hope you bring extra bug spray for your shelter too! See you on another trip soon :)

  • Hi Brian, it was great chatting with you on the trail. I could learn a thing or two about simplicity from you. Hope to see you on the trails again!

  • I enjoyed our hike back up the trail. And thanks for volunteering to sweep up the "tail end." Otherwise I wouldn't have had the opportunity to get to know you!
