Introduction

Hi! Like everyone in this group I love the outdoors and love to hike and backpack. I am married with two dogs who have shared many an outdoor adventure with me!

Describe your backpacking experience and background, please include longest mileage in a day (with pack) and coldest nights out.

I have lead and participated in many weekend and extended trips including local weekend trips in Shenandoah, but also the Adirondacks (one of my favorite places). I have also done several 7-10 day trips in the Wind River range, a week in the Olympics and 7 days in Glacier and several weekend trips in Northern Minnesota. The mileage for these trips were about 7 - 15 miles per day but my longest day was 23 (hard) miles. While living in Minnesota I did several winter trip in the boundary waters and camped during -14 degree temps.

Describe your most recent outdoor adventure. When was it? How did you set it up? Did the weather cooperate? How did it go?

The Big Three: what specific gear (not just brands) do you use for your three-season shelter system, sleep system, and backpack? (It's okay if it isn't ultralight!)

I have a Big Agness Copper Spur (for 2 people and dogs), a Marmot 15 degree bag and liner,a Thermarest women's Prolite pad and an REI 65 L backpack. I intended to get a1 person or bivy by Christmas for my solo trips.

Help us understand your reason for joining DC UL Backpacking, including your goals for lightening your load and quickening your backpacking pace.

I really want to do more backpacking in interesting places. I also want to meet more people who have the same or better skills than I do so that I can learn and grow as a backpacker. I'd like to do more trips out west and it has been increasingly difficult to find folks who match my ability level (although I do need to increase my own skills). I'd like to get just outside my comfort zone so that I can get better myself. I admit to being a gear-lover, but I'd also like to learn how to lighten my load so that I can hike a few more miles a day than I currently do. I also want to get out more and get into some new areas with folks who love the outdoors as much as I do.

How did you learn about our group? (I'm trying to improve our visibility, so I'm curious.)
