Visit the Tenement Museum of NYC

We will travel back in time and relive a significant part of New York City and American history as we venture to the Tenement Museum in the Lower East Side of Manhattan.

The Tenement Museum tells the history of immigration in the United States in the 1800s.  The museum is located in an old five-story tenement apartment dwelling built in 1863 and was home to over 7,000 immigrants.  The museum consists of remodeled apartment units that reflect the daily lives of early immigrants, indoor and outdoor tours of the building and the neighborhood, an educational visitor’s center, and a museum shop.

After touring the museum, we will have dinner either in the Lower East Side neighborhood or nearby Little Italy.

Important Note: Admission into the museum is $22.  Admission is given in the form of guided tours which must be selected and purchased on their website.  The tour that will be attended has not been selected at the moment, but will probably be Storefront Stories, Shop Life, or Then and Now (starting around 3:00PM).  You can choose the tour that I will attend or select your own tour.  When the February schedule is posted on their website, I will tell you which tour I am selecting.  Visit for more information and to purchase a tour.

*A detailed itinerary will be emailed one week before the date of the trip.

Important Information

-We will meet at Union Station at 7:45AM.  We can all meet in front of the Starbucks in the Food Court.

Do it AGAIN in the summer.... I try not to do too many winter travelling meet-up trips due to the unpredictable weather. Have fun.

The Tenement Museum of NYC looks like a great trip! I have another engagement, so I can't go this time. Mario, do you think there is the possibility of hosting this trip again? Enjoy, fellow Travelers! Can't wait to see the feedback and the photos!

Megabus has Winter Weather Service Cancellations listed on their website. Our trip is safe for now, but we should check back in case it changes...

    Hi All,
New to this group and very excited to do some traveling. Just wondered if anyone lives near PA Ave/Branch Ave or comes that way and would like to split the cost of driving/parking at Union Station.

Hello everyone. So sorry for the late reply. After viewing the schedule, we will take the 8:00AM-12:40PM bus. We'll meet at Union Station at 7:25. Sorry for any confusion.

Has anyone else bought their Megabus tickets? If so, what times did you purchase? Megabus schedule doesn't have tickets for the times listed in the schedule for the trip.

Hi. this will be my first meetup with this group. When should we purchase Megabus tics? I just checked their schedule. They have an 8:00 a.m. outbound trip and a 9:00 p.m. return trip right now, but I didn't see 8:30/9:10.

Hello Kellie, I didn't see an 8 departure either. I emailed Mario, but haven't had an update. How about you?

      January 8, 2014

    • Kellie H.

Hi, Gloria. I also emailed Mario about bus times, but haven't heard back. I want to get my tickets ASAP, but I don't want to be on a bus w/out the rest of the group. I've never been to NYC, so I'm really looking forward to seeing some of the city and meeting new people.

Hey Mario. I didn't see any Megabus tickets for the 8:30 departure. I'll just leave from where I live and meet you guys at your stop. Peter Pan is suppose to get in 20 minutes earlier. I'll call you if it's running late.
