We will travel back in time and relive a significant part of New York City and American history as we venture to the Tenement Museum in the Lower East Side of Manhattan.
The Tenement Museum tells the history of immigration in the United States in the 1800s. The museum is located in an old five-story tenement apartment dwelling built in 1863 and was home to over 7,000 immigrants. The museum consists of remodeled apartment units that reflect the daily lives of early immigrants, indoor and outdoor tours of the building and the neighborhood, an educational visitor’s center, and a museum shop.
After touring the museum, we will have dinner either in the Lower East Side neighborhood or nearby Little Italy.
Important Note: Admission into the museum is $22. Admission is given in the form of guided tours which must be selected and purchased on their website. The tour that will be attended has not been selected at the moment, but will probably be Storefront Stories, Shop Life, or Then and Now (starting around 3:00PM). You can choose the tour that I will attend or select your own tour. When the February schedule is posted on their website, I will tell you which tour I am selecting. Visit www.tenement.org for more information and to purchase a tour.
