What's in Downtown Brooklyn, New York?

VERY IMPORTANT: I will not purchase my ticket until 7 days before the actual date of the trip.  If there are no RSVPs 7 days before the date of trip, I will either reschedule or cancel the trip.

I have always been curious about what Downtown Brooklyn looks like and what it has to offer.  We will explore the many sights and neighborhoods of Downtown Brooklyn.

-There are several points of interest in the Downtown Brooklyn community:

*The Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan Bridge

*Brooklyn Historical Society-Museum and library dedicated to the history of Brooklyn ($6).

*Micro Museum, Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts ($4), New York Transit Museum ($5).

-There are also several distinct neighborhoods in Downtown Brooklyn:

*Downtown – central shopping and business area of Brooklyn, with many office buildings, department stores, clothing and electronic shops, and two universities.

*Brooklyn Heights – residential neighborhood with brownstone buildings, historic churches, and is considered the richest neighborhood in Brooklyn.

*Cobble Hill – quiet neighborhood of bookstores, shops, and restaurants.

*Fort Greene – a residential neighborhood that is home of the Brooklyn Academy of Music and many restaurants.

*DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) – contains a riverfront park with a unique view of the Manhattan skyline as well as the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges.

This was my first trip with the group and it was fantastic! Everyone was very friendly. I wish we had more time to see more things, but the time got away from us a little. Mario is an excellent organizer and is very patient with everyone. Thanks Jay for being our peronal tour guide.

Enjoyed it very much. I enjoyed seeing the Brooklyn Bridge up close. The people in the group were very nice & friendly. It would be extra nice if people were courteous to Mario & notify him when canceling out prior to trip.

Thanks for sharing the metro tip Iris. I wish I can carpool too. I am coming from Laurel. I went to metro site and learned that there is no parking at Union Station. I hope there is parking within walking distance. Can anyone share where they are planning to park?

Hi everyone. Apparently the metro's yellow and blue lines between Braddock Rd and Pentatog station will be shut down this weekend (they are providing shuttle bus service). Anyone wants to carpool to Union Station from Alexandria?

Hi Mary. If there's no tickets leaving for 8 am, that means that they have sold out. You could buy tickets for any time that you want, and meet up with the group once you arrive in NYC.
