I thought it would be a good idea to see other areas of New York City that are outside of the typical tourist destinations. On this excursion, we will venture around some of the unique and popular communities of Brooklyn while sampling the various ethnic cuisines of this large and diverse borough.
Our trip will begin with lunch and brunch at Acqua Santa Italian restaurant in Williamsburg, a very ethnically-diverse and historic community on the East River in Brooklyn. Average sized dishes are priced from $9 to $20. We will then walk a few blocks to the Momofuku Milk Bar, which serves unique treats such as compost cookies, cake truffles, milkshakes with organic milk, and veggie buns. Coffee and beer are also served at the eatery. Visit www.milkbarstore.com to view their menu.
We will end the trip with dining in the Lefferts Gardens neighborhood near Flatbush and Prospect Park, which is home to an established and still growing West Indian and African population. The community also contains numerous restaurants that serve Caribbean, South Asian, and Chinese cuisines as well as soul food. We will enjoy Caribbean food at the Mango Seed restaurant. Prices range from $6 to $20.
Important Note: For those that want to attend the meetup but desire to eat a different cuisine, there are other restaurant options in these neighborhoods, as you are free to eat wherever you choose.
