Potomac Heritage Trail Hike

I know this is last minute but since the weather is suppose clear up for tommorrow afternoon I thought it would be a good day for a hike. We'll start at the Roosevelt Island parking lot and head north along the Potomac Heritage Trail (PHT). This stretch is fairly rugged so wear good hiking shoes or boots, especially since it has rained in the previous few days. Reports from others who have recently hiked the PHT say that there is a fair amount of rock scrambling/climbing and stream crossings. Only bring your dog if you are prepared to carry them. We'll hike about 3 miles north along the river to Chain Bridge on the PHT where we will cross over to the other side of the river and head south along the C&O Canal towpath. After a pleasant 3 mile stroll south along the Canal we will reach Georgetown and cross back to Rosslyn on the Key Bridge. The total distance will be about 6.5 miles.

Depending on how we feel, we can stop at the Georgetown Waterfront for a few drinks and snacks or go back to our cars and head somewhere else in Arlingon for lunch. The starting and finishing point at the Roosevelt Island parking lot can easily be reached via Orange Line Rosslyn Metro Station. See link below for directions from Metro or driving http://www.nps.gov/this/planyourvisit/directions.htm

Hope to see you all out there.

When you're feeling better is it possible to make this an after-work hike? Seems like a nice route and I work in Arlington so thought I'd ask.

My work schedule during the week usually makes it hard for me to do any events before 7pm, but maybe at the end of July or August when it slows down I can do an after work hike
