Sunrise Hike - Old Rag / Robertson Mountain / White Oak Canyon - 11.2 / 19 miles

Let's watch the sunrise from the top of Old Rag Mountain.

This is NOT your regular walk on the woods by any means and we ARE NOT starting the hike on the Old Rag parking lot which will increase almost 1/2 the distance to reach the summit and in special I want to be very very clear that we will moving really fast on this hike so you must be willing to feel that kind of heat.
You have been warn.

It is 7.3 miles from the starting point to the top of Old Rag. To reach the summit prior to sunrise, we need to step off NLT 3:00am. I know it is early but the reward should be worth it. It should take approximately 9 hours to complete the 19 mile version of this hike.

Itinerary
We will start from the White Oak Canyon parking area and head up Berry Hollow Fire Road then down Weakley Hollow FR to the Old Rag upper parking area, from there we will head up the Ridge Trail to the Old Rag summit arriving in time to view the sunrise. We will then head down the Saddle Trail to the intersection of Berry Hollow, Weakley Hollow, and Old Rag Fire Roads. At this point those that prefer a shorter hike can head back down Berry Hollow FR to the White Oak Canyon parking. This will result in a hike of 11.2 miles.

Whit those who want a little more challenge we will continue straight on Old Rag FR to Corbin Hollow trail. We will take Corbin Hollow trail around the north side of Robertson Mountain to Weakley Hollow FR. After a heading up the FR for 100 yards, we will take Robertson Mountain Trail up and over Robertson Mountain. At the end of Robertson Mountain Trail, we will turn right on Old Rag FR and stay on it for 0.5 miles and turn left onto Bridal Path trail. We will take it for 0.7 miles to White Oak Canyon trail where we will bear left and head down to the parking lot.

Gear list, What you need to bring:
1.) 2 pieces rain suit - Just in case.
2.) Head lamp
3.) Day backpack
4.) Snacks/food for your self.
5.) Camel bag/bottle or similar for drinking water.
6.) 2 liters of water for short hike - 4 liters for long version
7.) A good attitude and a big smile on your face.

You should also bring extra socks and dress in layers. You will need to remove your outer layer(s) when we start the hike and you will want to put some of this clothing back on when we stop on top of Old Rag for the sunrise because it really get cold over there at that time of the day.

@ALL - I'm going to post another trip for this coming Sunday, the part that we didn't do which will e White Oak Cayon / Cedar Run Falls, great and beautiful area whit several water falls and swimming holes along the way, here we have a 98 feet tall water fall and more great views and I do promise we will move as faster as the slower hiker meaning we will have enough time to enjoy the several views and also to smell the flowers...hope all you guy's can make.

If you (or Lindsay or anyone else!) are interested, I am going to check out the lighting of the Washington Monument's exoskeleton/collar/scaffolding tomorrow night at around 8pm: http://www.washington...

Hi all. I have a TWO FREE TICKETS for a pre-release showing of the psychological thriller, "The Hunt". I can't go. Call or text me and I'll send the tickets via email as a pdf file. [masked] 5757.

THE HUNT Washington DC Sneak Preview. Monday, July 8, 2013 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM (EDT). Landmark E Street Cinema. [masked]th St NW.
    Washington, DC 20004. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2106476/
    ...

"The Hunt" is the latest unflinching drama from Danish auteur Thomas Vinterberg. Co-written with Tobias Lindholm, this is an ambitious star vehicle for legendary actor Mads Mikkelsen, an icon in Denmark and familiar face around the world as well (lately, the main star in "Hannibal", the TV series). He plays Lucas, a small-town kindergarten teacher. The film is quite dark and deals with some very difficult subject matter that can be very hard to watch at times. I'll leave it to you to decide if you want to be more aware of the details by looking up a basic synopsis.
