Have off on Monday and looking for something to do. If so please join me for a MLK day hike at Great Falls. We will meet at the Scotts Run Preserve parking area. You won't find a closer waterfall hike to the Metro DC area. One mile from the beltway on Georgetown Pike, the Scott's Run Nature Preserve is a little piece of wilderness saved from urban sprawl. This hike features river views, a waterfall, wildflowers and some pretty interesting ruins as well. It includes palisades along the Potomac and the rocky lower end of Scotts Run so be prepared for a few rocks and hills.
We will start the hike promptly at 11:00am and it will take about 3 hours to do the 4 miles. Dogs are welcome on the hike but must be on a leash. If after the hike the group wants to do some more hiking we can drive down the road alitle bit to the Difficult Run Parking lot and do another few miles. If not we we can head over to the Old Brouge Restaurant in the city of Great Falls for some lunch.
Below is a link to the the hike. You can get driving directions by going to the bottom right hand side of the page and entering your starting address: http://www.everytrail.com/guide/scotts-run-nature-preserve-hike-to-enjoy-the-waterfall-and-river
Or follow these directions: From 495, Exit 44, Rt 193 George Town Pike North. In about .7 miles, turn right into the parking lot. We will meet in the first parking area on the right. See picture of parking area below: http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/cct/downloads/scottsruntopo.pdf
Looking forward to seeing you all there.
