DIRECTIONS TO ULTIMATE WATERSPORTS: Please note that previous groups have had trouble finding the place when following Google Maps to Gunpowder State Park. The following directions will get you there the easiest way. If you decide to use a GPS please make sure you enter the following address for correct directions, Ultimate Watersports phone[masked] Graces Quarters Rd, Middle River, MD 21220 Take 95 North to exit # 67-A (Rt 43 White Marsh Blvd) Follow Rt 43 to 1st light, turn right onto the ramp, and stay to the right for Rt 40 East Take 40 East to the first light and turn right onto Ebenezer Road Follow Ebenezer 4.5 miles to Gunpowder Falls State Park - Hammerman Area, on left (FYI: Ebenezer Road becomes Graces Quarters Rd 2 blocks before the park entrance) After paying the park fee, follow the park round around past a few parking lots until you see a large (4-foot by 6-foot) yellow "Ultimate Watersports" sign on the right. Make a right turn right after the sign, so that you drive between the two tall (50 foot) poles. Then make your first right into the parking lot. If that first lot is full, just park in the second parking lot (the lot in front of the blue building). Looking at the water from the parking lots, Ultimate Watersports is the series of small huts and kayak racks all the way to the right. It is *not* the large blue building. There will probably be a number of flags and small sailboats in front of the huts. The park entrance fee is $3 per-person for Maryland residents and $4 per-person for people from out-of-state. Tell people that when they get to the gate, just tell the attendant how many people are in the car and hope they give you the Maryland rate and not ask you what state you're from.

Well, I'm glad it's raining cause I am just finding out that we were never on the schedule.

    Let's reschedule part 2.

Holly so are we out of luck tomorrow?

AND... Jessica sent me a text message this morning expressing interest in getting some windsurfing practice in outside of formal lessons. I just called Ultimate Watersports and yes... we CAN rent equipment from them at the rate of $20/hour provided we can successfully execute 3-180 degree turns, something I think you, Jessica and I can do quite handily. I'm free Saturday after about 10am and all day on Sunday. So... if the forecast looks reasonable (no rain/lightening and friendly breezes), perhaps I'll head out to get some practice in anyway!

    • Matt

Thanks Holly...I probably won't make it out there today but tomorrow might work. Appreciate you doing the homework!

Okay... so here's the deal... I just got off the phone with Tyler, Manager with Ultimate Watersports. And yes... they can support a Part 2 Windsurfing Introduction session on Saturday, August 23rd from 2-5pm (so we'd want to show up by 130pm like we did yesterday). Cost will be $99/person...a $14 premium considering they're having to set-up/take down for us on two separate days vice a single session seems reasonable (this is my mental rationalization and not one they gave). Everyone will just need to call them and register over the phone (and remit payment at time of registration) not later than Sunday, August 17th. I just gave them my payment information and I hope everyone else will join me in the fun!

Hello everyone! In light of the interest expressed to me by many in our group today, I'll be reaching out to Ultimate Watersports in the morning to see about scheduling Part 2 of the 6 hour course. Completing six hours of instruction would make participants eligible for a certification card from U.S. Sailing that can be used anywhere windsurf rentals are available! Right now, Ultimate Watersports has us penciled in for Saturday, 8/23. Cost may only be $85/person, but that's a bit TBD until I talk with the manager tomorrow morning.

Sorry I haven't responded sooner, Matt. Crazy week at work! I was thinking I would go a bit early and swim and have lunch before the class. The drive looks to be just over an hour. So, probably around 10 or 10.30 am. Does that work for you? Or not sound good?

      August 7

    • Matt

Hey Jessica, no problem I can relate. 1030 would work good for me and an early swim sounds good. My cell is[masked] if you want to chat about where to meet and such. Cheers!

I forgot to comment that I can not make it this weekend. I changed my RSVP to NO and requesting a refund. I hope you guys meet up again before the end of the summer.

Darn, out of town next week so can't do the new date. Saw the email so I'm both RSVPing No and requesting the refund here.

  • margo s.

Hi, so it is okay to be an absolute beginner? thanks!

    July 3

    • Holly

Margo - I'm not sure if you may have received an offline reply, but I spoke with the folks from Ultimate Watersports and yes... absolute beginner is fine. The only requirements they have on their website (http://www.ultimatewa...) is that "students must be proficient swimmers and generally feel comfortable in open water."

Ooo I wanna go. I would be coming from Ashburn, Va. I could pick up folks on the way. Hopefully the spots are filled by next thursday.
