James Run/Austin-Furnace mountain/Big run trails.
Come out in the cold on a Saturday morning and enjoy a good "killing workout" hike, wind and maybe snow on the ground that will make the scenery that much better. The trail is marked but there will be intersections that hikers will need to be aware of in order to make the complete 19 mile loop .
Let's start the early morning hikes with one of the harder trails, well, 3 of them combined in 1.
The James Run/Austin-Furnace mountain/Big run trail is a very strenuous 19 mile hike that will help you escape the city and feel like you accomplished something tough.
This trail is one of the farthest away from the DC area that is good for a day hike and totally that is worth driving to (decline, incline, nice views). With the early morning hike, you still have time for plans that night. If you attend, best not to commit to anything else before 8:00 pm though.
Please review the trail summary. This isn't an easy hike (mainly due to the trail length and constant incline on the 2nd half of the trail) so please absolutely consider your physical condition if attending this activity, you have to be on your prime.
After completing the hike, for those interested we will invade Hazel River Grill, a local establishment to partake in a early dinner and some drafts.
This hike is absolutely NOT for the weak knee/ankle/foot nor for those with low stamina.
