Many of you post comments or email us why our prices are different than the website prices on some events. Please note that this structure varies slightly depending on the event but consistently follows the following breakdown.
Event Cost -- Which is what is on most websites (We try to get a group discount when we can. However, many vendors do not offer discounts. We like to keep a variety of activities on the board so we still post activities even when we don't get a discount)
Sales Tax -- Yes, we often have to pay them 5-6% depending on the state.
Other Fees -- Any other hidden fees that may be tacked on from the vendor.
Meetup Fee -- $1-2. We have to pay monthly fees to meetup to have this site. And, goes into a "meetup" pot to cover any overhead or other costs the organizers may incur.
Organizer Fee -- $1-5. Someone has to take the time to set events up, get prices, handle the accounting, pay the bill, meet, greet and run the events. Don't you think they deserve a discount or spot for free for all the work? Most organizers can't afford going to 2-3 events per month. It gets expensive! Think of it as a Tip!
Paypal or Amazon Fee -- Yes, we have to pay these companies 3-5% to collect your money and we also have to pay them to refund your money.
Refunds -- We charge a $10 Refund fee for any refunds we are able to give. This varies per event because some vendors have a no refund policy. Or, charge additional fees. We do not refund anyone the day before or day of the event. Any additional money taken for the refund fee is put into into our "meetup" pot to cover overhead and advance deposits for events. Refunds take quite a bit of work and since we pay for all events up front or put down a non-refundable deposit down for the event.
We must take time to locate your tranaction, fill out the refund request, log into amazon or paypal.
Hope someone will fill your spot, Call the Organzation change the number if possible, etc.
So in "some cases" our rates may be higher than what you see on websites. However, we hope you enjoy coming out with our group and look forward to seeing you at one of our next events!
All of your organizers have full time positions and volunteer to do this in their spare time. We would like to put a shout out for the assistant organizers that make this Meetup happen. We couldn't do it without them!
We are always looking for feedback. AND, we are always looking for new ideas, how to offer more events, and looking for new volunteers to get the folks in the DC/MD/VA area outdoors and active.
