24 Hours of LeMons

We have an entry in the race at Summit point this weekend.  and drivers picked out.  If you are going to be at SPMP this weekend stop by to say hello - I'll be in the pit lane.  If there is any interest, we might even run a karting meet up on Saturday June 15.  ;)

See you there!

Fellas and Fellasitas,

Just so we don't drop the ball....This year's 24hoursofLeMons is going to be held on June 15-16 at Summit Point. I may be away between March and April but I'd be more than happy to work towards it before and after the break.

The deadline for entry is April 6th

Just got word from Nick Pon ("Associate Perp" of 24HoL) that there's a 98% chance the event will be run on the Shenandoah Circuit. Apparently the 24HoL has always been run on that circuit in the past. I've run Summit Point Main more times than I can remember but I've never run on the Shenandoah circuit.

I've done Shenandoah a few times. It's a fun course that favors momentum over raw power. It's a much safer track that Main with fewer high speed/low runoff areas. Lemons always runs that track at SP from what I've seen. It's always hyperfest weekend, too, so NASA gets dibs on Main.

      January 15, 2013

    • Ken R.

Agreed 100% Shenandoah is safer than the original track. I can't imagine a novice taking the chute at speed, at night, in a hooptie with questionable brakes. I *can* imagine being punted by said novice. Ditto goes for t10 and t1, too. From what I've seen from friend's video, the LeMons fields have pretty high car counts (40-60 cars!) so it's often time bumper to bumper.

This is awesome...so much energy. We should call a meetup to discuss how to handle this...how about the weekend of 19th? Supposed to be cold and would be a perfect day to spend time indoors and discuss along with our poison of choice.

Great idea Silpi, I'm totally down for that. I'm free Saturday or Sunday, but would prefer Sunday if possible. I'm super excited for this.

The weekend of the 19th works for me. It will be great to finally meet with other racing fans.

I've registered with 24hourseoflemons - just let me know when we have a team name.

Yep, I'm down with this. I'll throw my wrenches into the mix.

I've been lurking around here for a couple of months, but haven't had the chance to attend any meetups during the season. Participating in the LeMons has been something I've been wanting to do for years. I'm more than happy to contribute my wrenching and driving skills (auto-x, rally, karting).

Didn't get the VW, but if we have some skilled mechanics, I agree that it is less of a problem. Storing the vehicle will be tricky - which is some of the things we need to work out to see if it is all feasible. Looks like we've got the start of a great team - maybe a meetup to discuss the possibilities over a beer..?

The AMC Eagle sounds freaking awesome by the way.

    January 7, 2013

  • J S.

Awesome. Anybody looking for drivers or pit crew?

    January 7, 2013

  • Jason

did you snag the VW? If not, I have an AMC Eagle SX4 in my garage with Lemons intentions. Stripped interior but needs some mechanical (or a jeep 4.0 junkyard swap).

    Either way, I'm interested :)

    i'd love to do this!

I was part of a LeMons team up in Mass that eventually fizzled. I'd love to lend my wrenching skills and Vettel-like driver reflexes to a team down here. Vehicle storage was our death blow, I'd suggest starting there since finding a suitable $500 racer is actually easier.

FYI not to get too far ahead of ourselves, but there is a race ready golf for sale in PA on the forums at the moment. Would solve most of the 'race prep' problems. If Kent or someone else with mechanical experience is keen, it shouldn't be too hard to organize.

    January 1, 2013

  • John W.

I'm saying yes because I definitely want to do this. There are a bunch of things we need to figure out to see if its feasible though, once we see how many people want to get involved.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
