October Jam Session

I hope everyone had a great summer.  We have two hours of studio time at Bach2Rock reserved for the evening of October 9th starting at 6 PM.  The cost of $10 per person is used to defer some of the studio cost.

Best Regards,

Eric

I attempted to upload the MP3 of the October jam to the files sections...however...the files section only allows 10mb uploads. Since I do not have time to break the 45mb track into segments... here is a link to my public Dropbox file available for download. Remember that it's a JAM...not a structured recording session... Enjoy.

Wow. Awesome guys! Thanks for posting Craig.

      October 12, 2013

    • Larry H.

I liked the Black Sabbath song.

      October 29, 2013

  • Larry H.

If I can come from Baltimore would you have a drum set at the jam? Do you ever have a spontaneous jam? I have been jamming with various people for over 40 years and really like creating the jam rather than playing familiar songs. I will jam to anything though. I especially like funk, blues and jazz.

    October 27, 2013

    • Eric E.

Hi Larry. Yes, the studios are fully equipped. Mostly, we've been playing familiar songs. Check out the mp3 file posted by Craig and Alexander. Last time we had access to multiple studios so there is quite a bit of flexibility in how we run the jam. Hope to see you next time.

    • Larry H.

Thanks, Eric. I listened to the mp3 and I recognize just about all of the songs. If you have the jams during the week I will probably have to make an early start to avoid some of the DC traffic. In Bethesda there should be plenty to do in case I get there too early. I will be out of town November 22 and 23 but will be here the rest of the month. This sounds like fun.

    When's the next jam?

    October 17, 2013

    • Alexandre S.

Yeah... When IS the next jam? :-))

      October 21, 2013

  • Steven S.

I just heard "coccaine" on radio live .... great jam song!!

    1 · October 12, 2013

  • Alessandro

I had a great time, and can't wait to jam again.

    October 11, 2013

  • Craig M.

Eric, I have edited the audio of our session last night and have combined actual music portion into an MP3. Are you ok with me posting it to the "Files" section of Bethesda Rockers Meetup page?

    October 10, 2013

    • Eric E.

Hi Craig. Yes, that would be great unless anybody else has an objection. Thanks for doing this and it was great to see you on Wednesday.

      October 11, 2013

    • Scott S.

      Sounds cool to me.

      October 11, 2013

  • Alexandre S.

Since I've never been to this location, is there space outside to park and unload guitar/amp?

    September 25, 2013

    • Eric E.

will do. see you tonight Ken

      October 9, 2013

    • John B.

Alexandre - it was fun jamming with you and the rest of the excellent musicians last night. Thank you for the kind words. I too would like to jam again with you guys. Let's come up with a new playlist to practice and we'll meet again. Best $10 I've ever spent. Look foward to the next time. Eric, thanks for setting this up.

      October 10, 2013

  • Alexandre S.

I really enjoyed it. It was great to play with a very competent drummer, bass, and other guitarists. If the jams were organized monthly, I would return again and again. It was really helpful to have a list of songs selected ahead of time by attendees.

  • Scott S.

I'll be at Black Finn at about 5:15 for a pre-game drink!

    October 9, 2013

  • Scott S.

If need be, I can fake the drums on most songs. It won't be Rush, but it'll do.

    October 8, 2013

  • Mark Y.

Guys, I am really sorry. But a gigging band called me and asked me to fill in for their regular drummer. The only night for a pre-gig practice session is tomorrow night.

I'm sure John B. will handle the songs.

Again, sorry for this late cancellation.

    October 8, 2013

    • Eric E.

Good luck with your gig Mark. See you next time

      October 8, 2013

    • Alexandre S.

Oh man, John, the pressure is on you! ;-)

      October 8, 2013

  • Mark Y.

I've been listening to all the songs. I should be "ready" to play any of them EXCEPT Paranoid and Tie Your Mother Down. But I'll let John decide which songs he most wants to play. I'm flexible.

    2 · October 3, 2013

  • Scott S.

Alexander, If you want to bring your rig, I can help you bring it in while you park. I'm bringing my git and pedals just so I have something familiar. Group,

I can do drums so-so if need be.

    1 · October 1, 2013

    • Alexandre S.

      Wait and see! ;-)

      1 · October 1, 2013

    • Eric E.

Mark, if you click on the person's profile you can see their instrument (s) of choice. Craig has agreed to play bass. John is a drummer. Most others are guitar players.

      October 1, 2013

  • Scott S.

Looking forward to it. This is the list?

    Highway to Hell
    Crazy Little thing called love
Paranoid (Know this one very well)
    Sunshine of your love
Show Me the Way (Who is this?)

Time (and drummer) Permitting: (Floyd? If so, I know this very well)
Tie Your mother down (Good Choice!)
    American Girl

    October 1, 2013

    • Mark Y.

Eric, would you mind sharing what instrument each of the folks attending will be playing? Do we have a bass player?

      October 1, 2013

    • Alexandre S.

Scott, "Show Me the Way" is from Peter Frampton. Here's a good version of it: http://youtu.be/qPRQp...

      October 1, 2013

  • Craig M.

Hope so... Well done... Now for the pre-jam finger calus build-up....

    September 30, 2013

  • Mark Y.

So, this is the final list?

    September 30, 2013

    • Eric E.

Yes. I tried to incorporate everyone's suggestion. I hope this works.

      September 30, 2013

  • Eric E.

ok, Here's an updated song list:
    Highway to Hell
    Crazy Little thing called love
    Paranoid
    Sunshine of your love
    Show Me the Way

    Time (and drummer) Permitting:
    Tie Your mother down
    American Girl

  • John B.

    Great Song List Guys!
Just my 2 cents, same bands, different songs:
    Eagles - On The Border
    Clapton - Mainline Florida
Frampton - Do You Feel Like We Do? (Minus the middle part).
Queen - Tie Your Mother Down
    Petty: Here Comes My Girl
Primus with Ozzie (Sabbath Cover): N.I.B.

    September 26, 2013

    • John B.

Thanks for that clip Eric. Un effing believable. Wembley packed. Back when Freddie and Co rocked. Day at the Races. Great album. Hard to believe they're the same band that put out Bicycle...

      September 26, 2013

    • Mark Y.

Don't change the set list just for me. If you and John agree, then go ahead andpick songs. I'll probably come, but I'm not concerned about how much time I get on the drum set.

      September 27, 2013

  • Eric E.

Updated Song list: Here is what I recommend so far:

    Highway to Hell
    Crazy Little thing called love
    Paranoid
    Sunshine of your love
    American Girl
    Take it Easy

Please let me know what you think. Also, guitar players please let me know if you want to play lead on any of the above.

Pink Floyd??? Good music to get stoned to, but jam to?

      September 26, 2013

    • Eric E.

Scott Shenton did a nice version of Comfortably Numb when we got together a few months back. I liked it better than the original. Scotty, are you coming?

      September 26, 2013

  • John B.

Yeah, sorry Mark. They were just my suggestions for songs from the same bands. Some aren't as popular or well known, but from a musician standpoint, they can be more satisfying. Either way, I'm excited to play live music with other musicians.

    September 26, 2013

  • Mark Y.

Sorry, I realized after I sent my last post that John B.'s list was not the "official" list.

    September 26, 2013

  • Mark Y.

Well, i think this list will be very challenging for anyone except very talented musicians. However, I'll do my best to be prepared for some of them. BTW, What happened to Crazy Little Thing Called Love and American Girl?

    September 26, 2013

  • Mark Y.

I have a music sheet for Crazy Little Thing Called Love. If you want it, just send me a reply. However, it may not be in the same key that Alexander wants to sing.

    September 26, 2013

  • Mark Y.

And I think that is enought for one session.

    September 26, 2013

  • Mark Y.

    Any attendess who are singers??????

    September 12, 2013

  • Mark Y.

I'm interested, but have you put together a "list of songs" that everyone agrees to work on before the Meetup?

    September 10, 2013

    • Craig M.

OK,,I'll grab the bass parts. Will the studio have a bass amp to use?

      September 21, 2013

    • Eric E.

yes. they are pretty well equipped

      September 21, 2013

  • Mark Y.

So, is there anyone who is coming that is a SINGER ??

    September 17, 2013

    • Alexandre S.

      Yes, I can SING.

      September 17, 2013

    • Mark Y.

OK. So for each song we play we'll need to know if you will sing in the "original" key or you prefer something else.

      September 20, 2013

  • Mark Y.

It looks like two other drummers aer planning on coming(Abe and John). If they are both in, then I think "three is a crowd". I'll look forward to the next one.

    September 17, 2013

    • Eric E.

We usually have access to two rooms. Having too many drummers has never been a problem. We can always tradeoff and hopefully learn something from each other. In any case, I hope you can both make it.

That's alright. I think I'm actually going to sit this one out anyway.

Prelim Song List. Here's what I recommend so far:

Crazy little thing called love - Mark
    Highway to Hell - Alexandre
Sunshine of your Love - Eric
    Paranoid - Alessandro

Let me know what you think. Also, keep in mind, we may have multiple studios and multiple drummers. So, please keep the suggestions coming.

    September 17, 2013

  • Margrita W.

I can't make it this time. Hopefully, I can make the next one.

    September 12, 2013

    • Eric E.

Hi Margrita. Thanks for the response. Let us know if your plans change. We could use some bass. Otherwise, see you next time.

      September 13, 2013

  • John B.

    OK, will do. Thanks Eric.

    September 6, 2013

  • John B.

Is there a drum set in the studio?

    September 4, 2013

    • Eric E.

Yes. You may want to bring some drumsticks though.
