I am searching for some competitive volleyball. I played on the women's college team, Slippery Rock University and am a defensive player and/or setter. Anyone recommend any good pick up places to play? I live in Mclean so I am pretty centralized to play anywhere....also if anyone needs a female in a coed league let me know? I am available wednesday nights for league play and pick up on some weekends...

Thanks
Joleen:)

And there is also indoor vball games in University of Maryland, College Park, on mondays and thursdays. I posted info about this last year. It's good level of play, and facilities are great ($7 for guests). Email me if you have questions.

If your located near UMD: College Park, there are also 2 volleyball courts located on what they call "la plata beach," and at the courtyards apartments off 193. Played there alot 2 and 3 years ago.

Hi guys, found this site: http://www.vball.us/s... it list places to play in all US states. Anyone know if all the places listed for VA are for walk in?

Carla, I think most of those places are going, although there is some
incorrect info there. (ie John adams is in Alexandria not arlington) I think
I have most of them on the list that I maintain which also lists the MD
and DC places. I'll check with the places that I do not have and add
them if there is volleyball there.

If you're looking for John Adams Elementary in Alexandria, it is just south of Seminary Road and I-395....take the Seminary Road exit West, make a left onto N. Beauregard (just past the Hilton). J.A. is several blocks south on your right....just past the Clyde's restaurant, but before the shops at Mark Center. The school sits back off the road, so it's difficult to see.

I wanted to add another option in DC for league play (16th & Q) - they seem to have a new league each season - only 1 level of play though:

I just discovered last week that my neighborhood in NE DC (Brookland ) has a rec. center with indoor volleyball every Tuesdays at 7:15 PM. The place is called Turkey Thicket Recreation Center on 10th St NE and Quincy St NE (near the Brookland/CUA red metro station.

It's just social playing, not part of a league or anything. It's a mix of various skill levels (men/women). I live nearby so it's okay for me (I get to know some neighbors too).

All you need to do is register at the center desk (sign up to be in the facility).

This group tends to push the Virginia openplay events, most of which I've enjoyed, but thought I'd point out an excellent openplay in DC, for once...

Recently, I've started playing at Jelleff's Boys & Girls Club, 3265 S Street NW, just off Wisconsin Avenue in DC (next to the Safeway between Georgetown and Glover Park). They play every Monday night from September 25 to May 21, except Christmas & New Years, from 6:30-9PM. They have three courts going: one with the highest level of indoor 6's I've found at a DC-area openplay, one with beginner/intermediate 6's, and one with either 2's or spillover from the high-level court.

At $8, it is a bit expensive (unless you happen to be a member of the Washington Ski Club, in which case it is only $6 a night), but, I've found it to be well worth it, between the high level of play and the good attitudes of the people who play there.

Plus, they go out for pizza and beer at Kavanaugh's Pizza Pub in Glover Park afterwards! Quality volleyball, nice people, and some socializing... what more could you ask for?

For more info, check out their website at http://www.scwdc.org/... ....

Does anyone know if the references to "social" or "beginner/intermediate" on this thread are still current? That is, are the places and schedules still in existence? They were posted a while ago.

Thanks,
Rick
