Come join in for the next Laughter Yoga session at the Sri Sri Center for Peace and Meditation at 2401 15th Street, NW in Washington, DC at 7:30 pm on Monday, December 7, 2009.
Yoga means uniting the body, mind and spirit. In this specialized yoga session, you will experience this union using laughter as a means of getting to that state.
Everyone has heard the statement “Laughter is the best medicine”, but - few people have used laughter in order to cure a sickness or release stress.
Laughter has been found to boost the immune system, and decrease the stress hormones in the body. Natural killer cells that attack virus and tumor cells increase in number. Blood pressure and heart rates come down when people laugh. People have cured themselves of terminal illnesses using laughter. [1].
The goal of Laughter Yoga is to bring a smile to every face. Laughter is a universal language that everyone understands. Laughter transforms anger and violence into joy.
There are four objectives for each session:
1. Find the fountain of joy that is deep within everyone’s soul.
2. Learn a new way to release the tension and stress of everyday life.
3. Gain a manner to become relaxed in a very simple way.
4. Understand the importance of laughter in everyday life.
This special Laughter Yoga session will be taught by Carla Riechman, laughing expert and President of Laughter International. Inspired by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, the founder of the Art of Living Foundation, Sri Sri knew the power behind laughter was needed in today's fast paced, stressed world.
Dr, James Farrow, MD of Monterey, CA said,
“Laughter is truly great medicine. Recently researchers at Loma Linda University in California showed significant drops in stress hormones and improvement in the immune system with laughter. I first discovered the concentrated power of laughter in a short course with Carla Riechman, the queen of laughter. Her laughter tape is still my daughter's favorite way to chase away the "blues".
Steve Cupp of Rockville, MD said,
“We laughed and laughed and laughed. Uncontrollably. We did keep our eyes closed but the kids inside us came out to play. That glow in the pit of my stomach rose up and never left. And we laughed and laughed and laughed some more. It was so much fun.”
