The Social Anxiety Support Group for DC, MD, and VA meets twice a month on Saturdays from 10:00 am to 11:30 am. On the first Saturday of every month, we meet at the Tenley-Friendship Library (Conference Room 1). On the third Saturday, we meet at the Martin Luther King Library (Room 221a). Support group meetings are open to anyone with social anxiety. At the meetings, we share our experiences living with and overcoming social anxiety.
STUDENTS who are seeking COLLEGE CREDIT by studying support groups (for psychology, social work, or other mental health classes) are not welcome to attend our meetings for observation. Thanks for understanding our shyness. PLEASE NOTE: if you are a student who has social anxiety and would like to come to the meeting as a participant -- and not for course credit -- you are welcome to attend.
Through this meetup group, support group members also schedule social gatherings. These social events help bridge the gap between support group meetings and "being social in the real world." We often host events after our bimonthly support group meetings, but also on on other occasions as well.
We also now host a monthly discussion of content from the Shyness and Social Anxiety Workbook by Martin Antony and Richard Swinson.
