WHO MISSES THOSE TRACK TEAM DAYS FROM HIGH SCHOOL OR COLLEGE???
Well, here's your chance to get back into those 'fun' interval workouts again!!!
Whether you're looking to seriously compete or just stay in shape, there's nothing better than interval training for burning fat, pumping up the metabolism, and improving cardio conditioning.
Plus, there's the camaraderie of group workouts for making friends and pushing each other for some new 'personal bests'. Unlike all of the other running groups out there, ours is for 20's and 30's with an emphasis on speed work...and socializing after!
So we'll be meeting each week at the Sidwell track, which is one of the nicest around, conveniently-located, just two block from Tenleytown Metro, and with plenty of free parking at the school.
We'll have some group stretching and warm up for the first 15-20 min., our challenging timed intervals workout for another 30-40 min., and then a 20 min. cool-down. It's like those track practice days all over again!
Depending on how many RSVP each week, we'll be running in two or three separate 'heats', based on intensity level. And as always, nobody is obligated to finish the entire workout. It's all about having fun and pushing within one's comfort zone.
Anyone interested in working on their long-jump and hurdles can do that too. We'll even be setting up some relay teams and practicing our starts. So whoever has blocks, please bring them along.
For some, our weekly meetups will be enough. But for those who want the extra challenge of competition, we'll be signing up the group for a couple of 'adult track meets' this summer in Alexandria!!! Maybe we'll be joining some 'fun runs' too?!
And then, after our weekly meetups, we'll all be heading into Georgetown, Dupont, or Bethesda for dinner/drinks.
Getting an excellent workout, socializing with new friends, and cheering them on to victory...there's nothing better!!!
