Memorial Day hike at Ft Ben

Ft. Ben offers lots of great trails that range from easy to rugged. This park is nice because it's so close to downtown, yet feels so far away from the city!

For this hike - we'll meet at the trail head of the Schoen Creek trail, which is near the parking lot by the visitor's center. This trail is 3.5 - 4 miles long and moderately rugged as it's also used as a mountain bike trail. Plan on this hike taking 2 hours with breaks.

If it is pouring rain, consider this event to be canceled. Entrance to the park is $5/vehicle. 2013 annual pass for DNR State Parks & Reservoirs is available. They are only $40 and are good from Jan 1st - Dec 31st.

Trail map is available online.

We had perfect weather. It was a bit warm in the sun but the majority of the trail was under the trees so the temperatures were perfect for the hike. Despite the rain last night the trails were dry for the most part with only small patches of mud here and there. Really enjoyed seeing familiar faces and pups from other hikes and seeing new folks too.

It was great to see everyone for the afternoon hike! Nico hopes to see some of you at the Broad Ripple bark park sometime in the next few weeks.

Does anyone know how much it rained out that way. Do you think it will be pretty muddy?

    Hi All,
This will be our first time. Simon, my mix Havanese/Bichon rescue dog, and I will be there. He's only about eleven months old and very energetic. I'll do my best finding it. Following the signs to the visitor's center and saddle barns sounds helpful.

I just wanted to post a reminder to the group that we are meeting at the trail head of the Schoen Creek trail (this is different than our monthly hiking location). Follow the signs to the visitor's center and saddle barns. This trail is 3.5 - 4 miles long and moderately rugged as it's also used as a mountain bike trail. Plan on this hike taking 2 hours with breaks.

I encourage you to bring water, doggie bags, and hiking boots. If it's pouring down rain, consider this event to be canceled.

We had such a good time hiking this trail on MLK day, that I wanted to get another holiday hike this spring. This hike is a little too long to schedule during our Sunday walks because I like to keep those to about one hour. This is a great hike for a holiday weekend when we have a bit more time and want to work off all those extra barbecue calories!
