*Hakka Kuntao Silat (Willem de Thouars methods)

These classes utilize and combine self defense methods and combat fighting principles, techniques and training derived from Silat and Chinese KunTao, mixed martial arts, basic boxing principles and cross fit related workouts. The primary source and greater influence of this type of system comes from the arts of self defense comprised of Chinese Kun Tao and Indonesian Pentjak Silat. Kun Tao is the Indonesian term for the Chinese Kung Fu arts that came to the Indonesian Archipelago. Pentjak Silat is the indigenous martial art form practiced there for many generations. Pentjak Silat Serak, or Sera as it was first spelled, is the style of Pentjak Silat practiced by the deThouars family. Our Head teacher, Willem deThouars, combined aspects of Pentjak Silat Serak (as well as other styles) with Chinese Kun Tao. Kun Tao is primarily an empty hand art, and Pentjak Silat Serak is primarily a knife art, and the combination proved both effective and practical. Its most unique aspect is the use of the traditional Kun Tao stances in combination with the Pentjak Silat djurus (hand forms). Kuntao was the term describing the ethnic Chinese martial arts or Kung Fu. Silat is a generic term for "warrior arts". Generic term(s) for self defense sports. Similar to how Kung Fu is often used. A difficult skill worked towards perfection, acquired over a long period of time. We train under GrandMaster Willem de Thouars in his "Hakka KunTao Silat”
