If you are interested in being a crew member on a 25ft Catalina on Lake Ray Hubbard, then this is the thing for you. This is not a ride along. It takes more than one person to crew a sailboat and anyone participating will be expected to assist as needed. Please read everything carefully before you respond.
I am sorry the number for the crew is so small, but it is not a large boat and I want everyone to have fun. I will try to arrange more of these as the summer progresses.
I have decided that I will use this event to raise funds for my favorite charity, “The Ride For Kids”, that benefits the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. They have the “Ride For Kids” event every year here in Dallas/Ft Worth in October. To donate to this worthy event, I have a page setup with First Giving. Here is the link to my fund raising page and if you have a motorcycle or like to ride with someone that does, consider participating in the event. By using the First Giving page, all funds go to the foundation and it is tax deductible.
I had hoped that since everyone had so much fun, that they would be glad to donate to the "Ride For Kids" but I have found very few have. So I am going to require that you make a donation after your RSVP shows you are on the crew. If, after 24 hours of your RSVP, I do not see a donation, I will remove you from the crew.
If you are on the waiting list please check frequently the last 24 hours before the as I have had many cancel and then the person from waiting list did not know they had popped onto the going list... If you are going to cancel please do not wait until the last minute. It is not fair to others.
Whatever you wear, be sure it is ok to get wet. Leave as much as you can in your car. Things to worry about getting wet!! Wallet, purse, phone, keys that are remotes. Have something to secure your glasses to your head. Good idea to have a change of clothes in the car for when you return. Even it is summer and warm, I do not recommend you wear a bathing suit to be 2-3 hours in the sun, unless you are wearing a shirt and shorts over it. We might go swimming especially on the afternoon sailing trips. Shorts and either long or short sleeve shirt. If you wear sleeveless shirt, then make sure to have plenty of sunblock. Best to wear something that you are comfortable in and can be wet.
If any of this makes you wonder or worry, then this is not an event for you. If you are not sure if you get seasick, then I would suggest eating little or nothing before coming out and bring some seasick pills or medication. I understand that saltine crackers are good if you are feeling sick.
