Creating and Using Custom APIs

** Pizza and beer will be provided! We'll kick off at 6:00 PM with a meet & greet. Presentation will begin at 6:30 PM.

CiviCRM provides a mechanism for a developer to create their own custom api calls.  This useful feature enables the developer to provide an API call that can be used in PHP, Javascript/Ajax , JSON urls, among others.  Custom api calls allow you to pre-configure complex operations that can preformed efficiently.  For example, perhaps you want to get a list of contacts that are related to another contact, and have the results returned alphabetically by organization name.  This would make for a complex operation using the Standard API options available, especially if one is using ajax.  Creating a custom api makes this a simpler one-liner for a Javascript customization of a contribution form, taking the complexity out of the Javascript, as well as increasing efficiency.
