Explore: Broomball

It's back....and this time it's personal! Join us as we hit the ice for an epic battle of Broomball on

February 16, 2014 at the Galleria of Dallas.

For those that don't know, Broomball was invented by Canadians for some "in your face action" but you may like Wikipedia's definition a tad better: "Players hit a small ball around the ice with a stick called a "broom." The broom may have a wooden or aluminum shaft and has a rubber-molded triangular head similar in shape to that of a regular broom. Players wear rubber-soled shoes instead of skates, and the ice is prepared in such a way that it is smooth and dry to improve traction." "A typical game of broomball is broken up into two or three periods. The object of the game is to score goals into your opponent's goal/net. The team with the most goals at the end of a game is declared the winner. In some tournaments, if the scores are tied after regular time, an additional overtime period is played to determine a winner. In the overtime period (in most cases), six players, three on each team, play five minutes without a goalie. The team to score more goals in the overtime period is declared the winner. In the event of another tie, a second overtime period may be played. In some games a shootout period will be played. The shooter has the choice to have the ball placed a specified distance from the net or, like in hockey, can play the ball from center ice."

This will be our third year doing this, and it's always been a highlight of our meetup. It's fun, exhausting and just slightly dangerous. Although this event is capped at 24 people I always encourage anyone to come out and watch the fun. We'll head out and grab a bite afterwards.

PLEASE BRING: For those planning on attending , you will need to bring:

Tennis Shoes (Rubber Soles)

Comfortable Clothes

Water (optional)

Shin Guards/Knee Pads/etc (Optional)

RSVP: A non-refundable* payment of $15.00 / per person is required immediately following your RSVP of 'YES' to this event via our Acceptable Payment Options . This $15.00 will give you 60 minutes of ice time and the usage of their equipment.

Please arrive between 7:15 - 7:30 , we will be starting promptly at 7:45.

PARKING: Even though you're free to park anywhere surrounding the mall , I would highly recommend parking near mall entrances and not department store entrances since they will close their doors around 6:10 If you have any questions let me know. I hope to see you on the ice!

What if I'm running late? Should I change my RSVP to no so someone else can play? I'll probably be there around 8.

Hey everyone, unfortunately I've been pretty sick this weekend. Was hoping to recover in time but don't think I will be able to make it. Probably best so as to not risk spreading. Hopefully someone can use my deposit. Have fun

Per the usual, I may come along to observe the mayhem.

I just woke up from my post-bachelorette party nap and still have too much stuff to do today, so I'm not going to make it. Blame Rachel B. for getting married! ;-)

    Any extra spots?

    February 13, 2014

    • Omar A.

Sorry, Matthew but 12 vs 12 is about as many as the ice can hold without it getting too crowded.

So I think I would like to come watch the party... Any one else coming to cheer on??

    1 · February 12, 2014

    • Omar A.

Hi Sienna and Paige! Yeah, watching, cheering and booing (as long as it's not directed at me) are always encouraged! We also usually go grab something to eat afterwards which anyone is free to join.

I loved this last year. It was the best cardio ever. I was stripping off my clothes about 5 minutes in.

Hey guys, I had to push this back due to not having enough people to cover the cost atm. Hopefully an extra month will allow more people to sign up. If you rsvped and this be date doesn't work let me know and I'll refund the money paid. Sorry for the inconvenience!
