Explore: End of the year Happy Hour/White Elephant Gift Exchange

Come join us for one last happy hour in the year, good times, and gift exchange on

December 5th, 2012 at The Gingerman

With the world possibly ending in December, come and join us for what could be our last happy hour ever! Or at the least it'll be the last happy hour of the year, either way you'll be guaranteed some great times with some fantastic company.

Optional White Elephant Gift Exchange

For those unaware, the always trusty Wikipedia explains what a White Elephant Gift Exchange is:

In its most basic form, the gameplay is as follows: Each participant supplies one wrapped gift. Participants determine in what order they will take turns choosing gifts. The first person opens a wrapped gift and the turn ends. The second person then chooses whether to open a wrapped gift or "steal" a previously opened gift. If a person has his gift stolen, he also has the option of choosing a wrapped gift or stealing an unwrapped one. When a wrapped gift is opened, the turn ends. When all gifts have been unwrapped, the game ends.

I thought this would be fun to do, but please keep the following in mind before signing up:

  • Please bring a present worth $10-20. Feel free to spend more, but $10 should be the minimum.
  • Gifts can be gag gifts, useful ones, weird ones, unique gifts etc. You could get a gift card to starbucks, or a shake weight..be comfortable receiving either spectrum.
  • We're all adults so I assume we all know what's appropriate and what's not. There's a fine line between edgy and hilarious gag gifts and just insulting and innapropriate. If in doubt err in the side of caution or message me.

About The Gingerman

We recently had a great time here a few happy hours back, and they have always been very accommodating to our large groups.Voted Best Beer Selection by the readers of D Magazine this Dallas Pub has been serving beer since 1991. It is known for it's wide selection of beers and the upstairs bars with its own bar and balcony. There's also the usual selection of bar food, though I do have to single out their fantastic pretzels.

By RSVPing Yes you also agree to our attendance policy found here.

If this was the last happy hour ever, it was a great one to go out on.

Just a quick reminder that we have the upstair room booked for us, so just had up there when you get there. I'll try to get there a bit early as per usual. The plan is to start the White Santa at eight..Don't forget to wrap the gift and don't label it with your name. We'll reveal who brought what at the end.

I found I will have to work until 8pm; which, I may have to back out of exchange. :( I'll do my best to be there around 8:30pm, so I can be there in time for the swapping-of-the-gifts! If not… I’ll be there for happy hour!

Cool, was just going to make sure that I can be there in time for the swapping-of-the-gifts. Of course now I need to go shopping at some time, dam-it!

I'm assuming that both the gift exchange and happy hour will start at 6:30 pm...Is that true? I have to work late; so I may have to back out of exchange and just enjoy the happy hour and great company if that's the case. :)

I really wish I could say the same, but I'm not as pretty as you, need my rest, and a gift exchange with this many people will take at least two hours.

What about the 1st person? Doesn't the 1st person get to "Steal" after all the gifts have been opened?

    November 24, 2012

    • Doug G.

That's how I am used to playing

      November 24, 2012

    • Omar A.

Yeah there will also be a limit on how many steals there can be for a gift
