ASIAN FILM FEST DALLAS - Fallen City - Aftermath of the 2008 Sichuan Earthquake

Let's go watch a few movies!
Starting with Fallen City which I expect to be extremely moving.

First-time director Zhao Qi’s documentary, Fallen City, follows the intimate stories of three families in Beichuan, China, struggling to survive and cope with life after the devastating 2008 Sichuan earthquake, which killed over 70,000 and left almost 5 million homeless. Over the course of four years, see how a loving couple who lost their daughter, a middle-aged divorcee caring for her paralyzed mother, while also leading the rehousing of her community, and a teenager who lost his beloved father attempt to rebuild their lives. While survivors struggle to live in temporary, emergency housing, the Chinese government rapidly builds a new, modern Beichuan nearby – promising its residents a happy and prosperous life. However, the emotional scars that the survivors are left to endure are still too deep and raw to fully heal.

I hope the people that attended enjoyed the movie! I was unable to attend as we stayed at the picnic late into the night. I'm sad to have missed this but will catch another one soon.

Argh sorry Norman. I didn't get the chance to post something before 8pm last night. I will attend this evenings event and the screening of Drug War even though I don't speak Cantonese. It looks scary/interesting.

If you drive south a few more miles you could watch the interactive version of Drug War (and you don't need to speak Cantonese for that). Enjoy the show
