How did you become interested in learning Chinese?

I have always loved learning languages; and admired people who could speak more than one. So, I felt that learning Mandarin would help bridge cultural gaps, provide me with a unique skill (for Americans), and help me develop personally.

How would you describe your Chinese level at present? What is your goal with respect to learning Chinese?

I am not proficient; but, I have been working on improving for over 2 years. I understand the basics (sentence structure, tones, etc); and I have a basic vocabulary (mostly 1 & 2 character). My biggest problem is that I rarely get an opportunity to use what I know in a comfortable environment.

Have you ever been to China (by China I also mean 'Greater China', e.g. Taiwan, Hong Kong & Macau)? If yes, which part(s)?

No, but I hope to some day soon.
