Experience one of China’s most mystical traditions...China’s Lion and Dragon Dances embrace the beauty, art, culture, traditions and history of China. Gestures and movements that closely mimic the emotions of the mystical animals tell the story behind the performance. Emotions and expressions portrayed by the dancers include excitement, caution, curiosity, playfulness, anger, sleepiness, confusion, happiness and sadness. The dancers’ acrobatic skills add excitement to the performance, which is believed to bring luck and happiness. The Chin Woo Lion & Dragon Dance Team, based in Richardson, is led by kung fu and tai chi master, Jimmy Wong, who also serves as a judge for the International Dragon and Lion Dance Federation headquartered in Hong Kong and also is the U.S. representative for the committee. Jimmy’s dance team has traveled across the southwest to entertain and educate the public about the lion and dragon dance and Asian culture and traditions through performances, lectures, presentations and interaction.
