BYOT (Bring Your Own Topic)

We will have a special guest, Alistair Cockburn (an Agile Manifesto author) joining us for this session via Skype.

Our last meeting for 2011 is a BYOT night with great food and year-end fellowship. Simply post  your idea here as a comment or answer the question as you sign up, then be prepared to discuss your topic at the meeting. You don't have to have a solution or do a presentation, you just need to be able to represent your topic and answer questions from the group as we discuss it.

Many of you have asked for a session like this, so let's use the end of the year meeting to go over all those unanswered questions / issues that you might not have been able to get answered before. We will all do our best to give great solutions.

I thought the discussion was good. I wished more people contributed topics prior to the meeting.

One of the best meetings! Red Hot and Blue BBQ, conversing with Alistair Cockburn and gaining insights from the collective wisdom of like minded Scrummers all in one evening. Lance did it again! He got us some time with one of the Agile luminaries. Then, Gary got us conversing to each other collectively kicking problems around (if not solving them). Thanks for organizing these meetings.

Hard to beat BDD (Barbeque Driven Discussion) with Alistair's wry and thought provoking perspectives on Agile. The problems posed and the ideas shared by the group in open discussion were equally interesting. Thanks again Lance for pulling this together.

I liked having a group discussion with my local peers that are facing the same challenges I am. I find a lot of value in industry leaders, but I also find great comfort in the peer struggles as well.

This was my first DFW Scrum meetup. I thought having Alistair was wonderful. The open forum ended up being a bit less than desired. I think a few people dominated the conversation and often times their insight was very centered around being in an industry where the changes were bottom up. I will attend future meetups, but most likely ones with guest speakers that are more Q&A.

I think this session was great on many levels, but the most important thing that comes from these sessions (as you see with a real Scrum Team) is creating the environment that allows us to be open, honest, and collaborative. Just like exercise, you have to have these sessions that foster spirited conversations which hopefully help everyone involved.
