Rare Disease Research Day is this Thursday February 28th.
There are over 7000 rare diseases affecting roughly 30 million Americans. That’s one in 10 people in this country alone. So when taken together these diseases are not that rare, and have a huge socioeconomic impact. However, these diseases are largely ignored by researchers and drug companies, which means that patients and families are constantly frustrated by the lack of knowledge, diagnostics and treatments available for these diseases.
This Thursday, February 28th is Rare Disease Day, aiming to raise awareness of these diseases. Bio, Tech and Beyond is hosting a meeting calling on the local biotech community to tease out the diagnostic and therapeutic solutions to rare diseases. Join the whole DIYBio San Diego Community, rare disease researchers and open science advocates as we work to solve some of the pressing issues facing patients and families with un-diagnosable or un-treatable diseases.
We will be providing hors d’oeuvres and refreshments. Come meet with other like minded citizen scientists making our community laboratory a hub for complex genetic disease solutions!
