Seems like a reasonable request - points of business for this meeting:
1) What should be our first experiment?
I ran into the creators of the OpenPCR machine in San Jose recently, and learned that they were launching a new business by selling all-in-one kits for sequencing single SNPs - all we would need is a PCR machine. If that seems too trivial however, I could also teach a Bioinformatics seminar on designing primers and we could design our own assays using their system.
2) 23andMe Discussin
I am signing up for 23andMe, so I thought I'd reach out to anyone else who had used them or other personal genotyping technologies. One interesting project for the more computer-inclined among us might be to design a tool to better explain and visualize the technology and the results to non-scientists.
3) Hackerspace Discussion
Its hard to do DIYbio without gear, and its hard to collect expensive, bulky gear without a space. I want to talk about reaching out to the rest of the local hacker and DIY community about finding a space where we can experiment and store our stuff.
