Molecular Biology of the Cell Study Group

Don’t remember much from high school biology? What you do remember seems light-years behind where biology is today?

Join us as we go through Albert’s Molecular Biology of the Cell textbook.

Inspired by the BioCurious study group for the same, we're going to be working through the book, working together to improve our knowledge of biology!

For our first meetup, please read the first chapter, Cells and Genomes.

The table of contents for the 4th and 5th edition are almost identical, so we don't anticipate big problems if people have different versions. That said, Biology has come a long ways since 2002 (when the 4th edition was published). Of course, it may be interesting for us to contrast the two books.

One useful thing to note is that the 4th edition is available for search on the NIH website by agreement with the publisher: . The agreement does not include browsing, so you can only read the sections that come up in a given search.

Justin will be on hand to answer any questions the group might have from Chapter 1 of the text. For a nice treat, we're also going to bring all the required gear (and skills) to extract DNA from fruit (Please bring your own fruit - the more interesting the better!) to the meet-up tonight. Should be a fun and educational night!

Wish I could be there tonight, turns out I won't be able to. Have a great time and I look forward to joining y'all at the next one!
