Intro to Python Programming

Intro to Python Programming

Join us in December to learn the basics of Python programming!
Never tried programming before? No problem! This class is designed to be friendly to absolute beginners. The workshop is sponsored by the Python Software Foundation and will be taught by two women that are Python programmers.

Date: Saturday, December 1st 10am - 2pm (Lunch provided!)

Location: Droplabs - 651 Clover St, LA, CA

What the workshop will cover:
Intro to Python tutorial, based on the popular Learn Python the Hard Way book by Zed Shaw
Workshop breakout sessions, with separate stations for 2-3 Python programming topics

Why Python?
Python is easy to learn.  If you are comfortable with computers, you can learn the basics of Python programming in a day.
Python is in high demand. Most software companies that use Python can't find enough developers to fill their job postings.
Python is fun to use.  With Python, you can build pretty much any website, or web application.

Requirements/What to Bring:
A laptop
Python 2.6 or 2.7 installed on your laptop.  If you haven't downloaded and installed it yet, you can do so from http://www.python.org/download/releases/2.7.1/
GEdit installed on your laptop. http://projects.gnome.org/gedit/

Instructors:
Katharine Jarmul (@kjam) and Christine Cheung (@plaidxtine)

I know this is after-the-event, but I HAVE SEVERAL PYTHON PROGRAMMING BOOKS I WOULD LIKE TO GIVE TO ANYONE WHO WANTS THEM. A friend of mine worked at Digital Domain, and is now clearing his bookcase. Email me at quiddityre @ gmail. com if you would like them.

There is no charge for this event! We have a sponsor that is funding the space and a lunch. If you'd like to bring a snack for people to share that would be great. I'll send an email as it gets closer.
