Energy Literacy 101

Energy production and consumption are at the core of most of our ecological, economic, and geo-political problems. Research has shown that a frighteningly large percentage of Americans are energy illiterate.
The very fact that political action cannot be taken on the simplest measures to curb reckless energy production is indicative of an undereducated and apathetic population.

In this brief introduction we will discuss:

Primary Sources and Sinks (where energy comes from and how we use it).
Just Enough Physics (to understand your electric bill, etc). including the main units of energy measurement.
The Difference between Energy and Power.
Energy Transformation (Converting one form to another, and why electricity is the lingua franca of energy).

Armed with this information we may all become designers, inventors, producers and advocates for innovative energy solutions.

After the talk we will go through a few examples followed by Q&A and discussion.
