The American Experience, Smithsonian Style: National Museum of American History

From the beginnings of biotech to that purveyor of French Cuisine techniques, Julia Child, the American History Museum covers a lot of territory when it comes the American Experience.

For our visit, we will look at a number of exhibits, then find a good nosh for enjoying each others' company.

Please feel free to recommend a place to nosh after touring the museum.

Sorry I missed it - I got sick and had to stay at home. :-( I did take a tour of the website. There are some things I missed on previous visits (biotech!) so I'm planning to visit on my own.

Great event. As usual Kimbers was all over it. Wish my neck didn’t nix my plans to eat and hang with the group afterwards.

Kimbers - I concur with Sarah; great meetup! I just wish we had more time at the museum (of course, that's partly my own fault).

My apologies to anyone I may have annoyed a bit by talking too much; I can get exuberant when talking about topics of interest, plus I have a tendency to make a short story long.

That was awesome Kimbers! Sorry I had to leave before the noshing but I had another commitment. Looking forward to the next event!

Running late as well. Should I still go to the agreed upon location? Also, I'm bringing a friend. She is not an intuitive introvert, but she's excited to meet the group!

Any ideas about parking, garages,or train stops? I dont live in dc

    January 24, 2014

    • Kimbers

If you are coming from the red line, transfer to blue/orange at Metro Center or to the yellow line @ Gallery Place.

      January 24, 2014

    • Kevin D.

Parking at L’enfant Plaza is relatively easy and cheap and is a 15 minute walk or a 5 minute metro ride.

      January 25, 2014

I especially want to see the puppet exhibit. Also, I would like to thank Kimbers for having this at a reasonable hour and letting me sleep in today.

i've been on the listserv for this group for a long time, but have been too chicken to come ... perhaps tomorrow will be different?

    January 24, 2014

    • Kimbers

Hi Khadija - I'm one letter off INFP, but we have a lot of INFPs in the group. I would expect that you will run into a few at this event or at a future one if you attend.

      1 · January 24, 2014

    • Tanara

Hi Khadija: I'm an INFP too but unfortunately I won't be able to make it today but I look forward to meeting you and the rest of the group one day. Looks like group of really nice people.

Should we meet by main entrance?

    January 24, 2014

    • Kimbers

Most Smithsonian museums have 2 or more "main" entrances. We will meet under / near the American flag in the flag hall on 2 West which is on the same floor as the National Mall Entrance.

has a meeting place been established yet?

    January 23, 2014

I double booked. If the other thing ends early I'll try finding you all. I really want to see the Julia Child exhibit ...

    January 22, 2014

finally, an event that is only 1.3 miles from my apt so i can walk to it and and is a free museum. so i cant use having no money as an excuse not to go. maybe i can finally socialize in dc for the first time in the 6 years i've been living here... :) i will probably chicken out tho... i am too introverted... :)

I've just joined the group and looking forward to meeting folks on the 25th. Is there a suggested meeting place? If you have any questions about NMAM pls let me know: I'm a volunteer docent there and give tours.

    1 · December 31, 2013

    • Kimbers

Hi Melanie, Welcome to the group! Other than the Information Desk, I have not set a starting meeting location. I've never visited the NMAM, so please feel free to provide any recommendations.

I'm leaning toward one of two Saturdays; either January 18 or 25.

    • Colleen

So far I don't have anything else planned on those days.

      December 12, 2013

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
