riding: two excellent trails to choose from:  Dinosaur Valley State Park, and at Solavaca Ranch, one of my all time favorite trails.

Camping: Solavaca Ranch  (see maps below)  There 2 Porta-let toilets. The land owner, Mack, will provide a water hose by his barn, if you need water, but the only showers will be what you provide yourself. I use the 5 gallon Sun Showers sold at Sports Authority and Walmart. They work GREAT, just hang them up from a tree before your ride and they dispense hot water when you come back from it. Or, you can go get a hot shower about 4 miles down the road at Dinosaur Valley State Park.

cost: $12 per person for the weekend including 2 nights camping PER person, and up to 3 days of riding. Saturday arrivals pay only $8. If you come out to ride for the day, it will  cost you $3 per day. This is Kids 12 and under are FREE. However the day use fee at Dinosaur Valley is not included if you ride there (if you don't have an annual pass).

We will have this primitive campsite all to ourselves.

Neither DORBA, nor me, is responsible for your safety, your happiness, your food, your health, or anything else. It is all up to you. I am just announcing a little get together for people who like to camp and mountain bike. There will be NO volunteers at this camp-out and trail ride. You must sign two liability waivers. One for DORBA and one for Solavaca Ranch.

Why?:  I have been "organizing" the Bar H Campout & Trail Ride in the fall the past few years. Why? I want Dorba & FWMBA folk to be able to get together for a campout that needs no volunteer work... just riding and relaxing. So come on out and see this seldom seen part of the North Texas area.

Note: There will only be one communal fire to come together around each night. Of course you can have your own charcoal fires.

Glad everyone had such a great time. Thanks for coming out. Just uploaded my pumpkin photos. We'll do a Spring Campout. Haven't picked a date yet. End of March or beginning of May.

Its almost 1am, and we have all gone to to tents after a great day of riding, and a lovely evening. It sprinkled on us for about 5 or ten minutes about 10pm, then 5 guys went out for a night ride. If you were scared off by the threat of rain, you unneccessarily missed out on a great time.

We just got back from a great ride. Never had att cell coverage out here before. Now ive got 3 bars of LTE!

Channels 8 and 5 both say 80% chance of rain tomorrow. My tent is probably not equipped to handle much rain. The drive for me is about 2.5 hours. Hhmmm. Worth the drive? Debating.

Come on out. We have plenty of pop up rain shelters to sit around in. I think the rain will be spotty and scattered. Radar shows nothing to speak of.

Didn't have the "gear" to do primitive camping so I'm at dinosaur valley SP.
What time are people going to be riding in the AM?
I'll plan to head over then.

      We're meeting at 9:00.

IF we get a brief shower tomorrow, the trail can take it. Very sandy dirt that absorbs it well. Come on out!

I am leaving now, just have to stop at Bikes Inc. to pick up the prizes for the Pumpking Carving Contest. Bring a Pumpkin, I have all the tools and templates, and candles. Lots of prizes. $50 Bikes Inc. Grand Prize.

To all you newcomers, we don't like loud recorded music at any hour, and quiet time begins at midnight. Mountain bikers need their sleep. If you have musical instruments, or telescopes, please bring them!

Just for clarification there can only be the one large campfire? No smaller fire pits allowed?

    October 24, 2013

    • Christopher M.

well, I can't say that we have ever proclaimed it " not allowed", in the past 10 years. But everyone has always complied with this requrest. You see, the whole idea of having one big campfire, is for all of us, old friends, new friends, and strangers, to come together, around one community fire, and not keep to themselves in cliques. Plus, it is also a peace of mind to the land owners to know that there is only one fire to worry about. We could make an exception, if it is really important to you, if you don't have a grille, and want to broil some meat, but please keep it small, and please douse it with water, after cooking, and please don't keep to yourself because you have your own fire. If you can live with that, I suppose we could make an exception.

I can't tell you have many great friends I have made just from these campouts.

I am almost packed. Every year, I intend to make a big yellow DORBA Camp sign to put out front. But never got around to it. I do have a yellow MOUNT BIKE CLINIC sign I can put out front, so you don't miss the gate. When you arrive, stop at the little tiny house in the middle of the gravel driveway, sign the DORBA Waiver, sign the SOLAVACA waiver, and figure out how much you owe for 1. riding the trails, and 2. camping, and leave your money in the jar.

See you this weekend! Its going to be great!

Should we bring some firewood this year?

    October 23, 2013

    • Christopher M.

yes, please do. There are no burn bans, it is NOT easy to gather wood on the ranch, believe me, and what is camping without a nice big campfire? what else is there at night?

      October 24, 2013

  • Christopher

Sorry to back out. I hope everyone enjoys the weekend and ride safe.

    October 24, 2013

  • Christopher M.

Thanks for reminding me. NO DOGS ALLOWED, because there are 4 majestic white Great Pyrenees dogs that roam the ranch to protect the goats, and these gentle giants LOVE all humans, but can not tolerate any other Canines. Thanks for asking. I usually remember to put this in the announcement.

Are dogs allowed to the camp out?

    October 23, 2013

    • Willie

Sorry but I don't think so. They have some working dogs (to protect the goats) that would probably attack any pets...but are completely friendly to humans. They sometimes visit when we gather around the campfire.

      October 23, 2013

    • Willie

Confirmed per their policy: 5. NO DOGS or other pets
