DORBA Beginner Clinic

There will be a beginner clinic on Saturday the 14th of June at 8:30am at River Legacy Park in Arlington. There is a "classroom" for about an hour or so, a mini-skills workshop for 30 minutes, and then a ride of an hour or more. So count on approximately 2.5 to 3 hours. The clinic is recommended for riders new to the sport. If you have never ridden a mountain bike before or have just started out riding, then this is for you. Beginner Clinics will consist of basic instruction including bike setup, safety, trail etiquette, bike handling skills such as climbing, descending, cornering, obstacles, etc. There will be a ride after the instructional portion of the clinic.

You do NOT need to be a DORBA member or FWMBA member to attend. You WILL be told why you should consider joining one of these clubs. We DO require that you bring and use your helmet and strongly advise you to bring water. If you do not agree with our helmet requirement you will not be allowed to participate.

Requirements: You must sign a DORBA Liability Waiver, bring a bike, a good attitude, and a bicycle helmet that you are willing to wear for the entire clinic. Please download the DORBA liability waiver, http://files.meetup.com/3841722/NEW-WAIVER.pdf fill it out, and bring it with you.

This clinic is dependent upon good weather and trail conditions. CHECK THIS POST THE MORNING OF THE CLINIC for any changes or cancelations. i.e. don't ask me "is this thing still going to happen". If I have to cancel because of weather, I will make the appropriate announcement on this thread.

Parents can determine whether or not your child is old enough to attend. Parent are responsible for the happiness, behavior, and safety of their kids every single minute of the clinic. They will not be allowed to hold back the rest of the clinic. All attendees under 18 must have a parent or legal guardian with them. You can not drop off your kid. River Legacy Trail webpage: http://dorba.org/trail.php?t=21 here is a map of exactly where in the park to meet. http://g.co/maps/k3tbt GPS coordinates:[masked], [masked] This clinic will be lead by Paul Hake ("Tate")

THIS CLINIC DOES NOT START AT THE TRAIL HEAD! LOOK AT THE MAP IMMEDIATELY ABOVE THIS SENTENCE.

Any beginners that would like to get a group together to ride the trails together let me know. I live in far NE Richardson but will trav anywhere to ride. It's much safer riding with atleast 2 and a group ride is always fun. Love to meet, ride, and then gather for lunch. Will ride to match the slowest rider if needed.

For the Saturday race at LB Houston, is there a place along the racecourse where we can stand and watch the racers?

Thanks for all the folks who helped me, and for all you who came out too. I was a bit rusty but enjoyed it all the same. You were a good class and fun to teach and ride with. I'll try and get the videos I took on the trail up soon.

I was just looking for this event on Dorba's website & calendar and couldn't find it. Has it been rescheduled or is it only listed on meetup?

    June 4, 2014

    • Thomas H.

It's not clear what happened to the entry on the dorba.org calendar -- we've asked the server guys to check the logs to see if they can figure it out.

      June 5, 2014

    • Thomas H.

It was an accidental casualty of a site cleanup. The event entry on the DORBA site has been restored and the clinic should proceed as planned on June 14 (weather permitting, of course.)

I missed RCP due to a scheduling conflict on the rescheduled date. I look forward to this one!
