DORBA Beginner Clinic

DORBA will have a new beginner clinic on Saturday July 12th at Rowlett Creek Preserve at 9:00 AM.

Blain Norfleet will be your instructor, you can send him a private message at "bikecop" on the Dorba.org website, if you have any questions. Blain is THE mountain bike instructor for the Dallas Police Department and patrols downtown on his bike.

What: There is a "classroom" for about an hour, a mini-skills workshop for 30-45 minutes minutes, and then a ride of an hour or more. So count on approximately 3 hours. Beginner Clinics will consist of basic instruction including bike setup, safety, trail etiquette, bike handling skills such as braking, shifting, riding position, steering, momentum, cornering, and rolling over small obstacles, etc.

Who: The clinic is recommended for riders new to the sport. If you have never ridden a Mountain Bike before or have just started out riding, then this is for you.

Where: RCP Trails Webpage & Google Map: http://www.dorba.org/trail.php?t=22 Meet at the Gazebo. GPS coordinates:[masked] [masked]

Requirements: You do NOT need to be a DORBA member to attend. We DO require that you bring and use your helmet and strongly advise you to bring water, and a small snack that fits in your pocket. And yes, you need to bring your own bike (I get asked!)

Please download, print, sign, and bring with you the following required DORBA Event Waiver: http://files.meetup.com/3841722/NEW-WAIVER.pdf We will have a few there if you forget. Please don't.

Weather: This clinic is dependent upon good weather and trail conditions. CHECK THIS POST THE MORNING OF THE CLINIC for any postponements or cancellations.

We really enjoyed the Beginner Clinic! Even though I had been road biking for years, this is our first venture into mountain biking and it can be quite intimidating. The instruction was excellent and all of the volunteers were great! The lead and sweep (sorry missed the names) for Group 2 were great! We are both looking forward to getting back out to the next event and we are off to ride in an hour to work on our new skills.. THANKS AGAIN!

Wonderful clinic! Thanks to everyone for coming out, and a special thanks to all the volunteers who showed up to help. It is impossible to run these clinics well without your help - I appreciate it!

Thanks for the clinic! Had fun and learned some stuff. If anyone is interested in riding Squabble Creek in Rockwall, it's a beginner trail. We try to ride it 2 or 3 times a week starting at around 7 or 8pm.

FYI, just saw that someone is scheduling an RCP work day starting at 9 Saturday. Wasn't sure if we would get in each other's way.

Well, unless the weatherman has it completely wrong, we should have great weather all the way through Saturday. It's going to be hot, though. Please hydrate PRIOR TO Saturday morning, and bring plenty of water with you to the trail.

I will be bringing whole family. Wife has been riding a few times and loves it. We have taken our girls (7 & 9) to river legacy. They are so excited to learn!

Third time is a charm! Missed the first one at RCP due to the rain and reschedule, then missed the last one due to unexpected events.
