A group for those interested in walking the North and South Down areas on weekdays, and the odd Saturday.
Having walked, and filmed, many of the footpaths in the South East of England over the last few years, I've decided to bring the films to life and organise a group that can sample, in my opinion, two of the best areas. Indeed, one of these areas is so blessed that the Government decided to preserve it in a National Park - The South Downs.
Though not so officially ordained, and closer to London, The North Downs offer some equally stunning scenery, as do The Surrey Hills. So, although the latter is not true 'downland', there will also be occasional forays there to avail of some of the spectacular views as they are very close to The North Downs Way.
The walks (8-16 mile range) will start from the local rail station concerned and take place in the week to benefit those that are unable to attend weekend walks, or for those that prefer a more serene countryside. To preserve this serenity, our merry band will be restricted to 20 (with a minimum of 10). These won't be 'forced marches' (unless needed!), but undertaken at a moderate pace, allowing walkers to actually enjoy the scenery and benefit from the positive energy only Mother Nature can provide. There will usually be a lunch-time pub stop, or a picnic location for those that prefer, and a tea time stop at the end to 'compare notes'.
British weather is unpredictable, to say the least, so, if the advertised walk is forecast to be a wash out, a substitute walk in another part of the region should enable us to avoid this bane. A walk should always be available for the publicised day.
All welcome, but sorry, no animals or under eighteens please.
So, if you're a kindred spirit and fancy some weekday walking, have a look at my video 'tasters' (https://www.youtube.com/user/amib and scroll down to 'Downs'), and see if you like the look of what's on offer (best viewed in HD). If you do, I hope to see you soon!
