Wildflowers in Spring - Henry Coe

The wildflowers in Henry Coe are blooming! Here is a list of what is currently in bloom: http://coepark.net/pineridgeassociation/plants-animals-geology/wildflowers?catid=6

I'll update more on which trail we'll take later. There is a fee to the park of $8 per vehicle. Please carpool, as this is the environmentally sane thing to do.

Depending on the rain that falls in Winter, wildflowers can be found in parks and wilderness areas all over California. We can find an area close to Santa Cruz, or further away in the desert.
I am thinking of Henry Coe, Andrew Molera, Garapata State Park, Mojave Desert, Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve. As wildflowers bloom in different places at different times, we might organize more than one meetup on this subject.

This website has links for information on the various places we can find wildflowers in general, and blooming information specifically: http://ebcnps.org/wildflower-hotlines/

Definitively go again later too! The weather was awesome and the company great. The drive down there through the mountains was also a good experience, as was the Italian restaurant in Morgan Hill.

Sorry I wasn't able to go yesterday. How were the flowers? Were they starting or finished? I would still like to go there. Anyone interested in trying again?

Great location - still has more potential for wildflowers. Good company!

I have a conflict. If I can change that I might see you there.

Using macro lenses for this shoot would be recommended, adding the extension tubes Teddy is mentioning, or macroconvertors work really well too. But you might also want to get landscape photos, so be sure to be able to switch.

I am excited to meet up with you folks. Do you know any particular lens that is good for macro photoshoot for Nikon ?

Greats lens for Macro: 105mm, 60mm,100mm, 180mm and add extension tube(s) you'll be amazed how close you can get

May I suggest Carrizo Plains, San Luis Obispo?

    March 7, 2013

    • Walker

That and Shell Creek in SLO are incredable. The also have a web-site to tell you the current conditions.

I don't think Carrizo is working yet. And last year was very poor for wildflowers (I was there, I'd like to go back)

Useful URL for wildflower reports for a number of places in California http://naturalhistorywanderings.com/wildflower-reports/wildflower-hotspots-in-northern-california/

I think there could be a very nice trip between Santa Cruz and Half Moon Bay (including side roads) for wildflowers...in a few weeks. As of last weekend they are just starting. Not as the season goes on there will be different flowers blooming.

Not sure how the wildflowers are in Big Sur, but Garrapata Ridge might be a good place, and it's close by. Here's a link:
