Presentation: Videography for photographers

The current crop of digital cameras also has video capabilities, and has largely displaced videocameras. As photographers we often hardly use this feature, but it could come in handy to know how to use it. And for events like weddings it is becoming more and more required.

Our member George Haas has had some training and experience with video, and will discuss shooting video with your digital camera vs. video specific cameras, also basic lighting, audio, the fundamentals of processing with Final Cut ProX and iMovie, and direction tips.

We'll put it on our large TV in the living room, and there will be plenty of time for questions.

Bring your camera, and read up on the video features in your manual beforehand, we may set up a scene for you to get some hands-on experience!

Here's an article I just read comparing the Canon Mk II with the Mark III (Michelle's new toy;-). It also recommends using Premier editing software over Final Cut Pro X:

This article is about Premiere Pro, which is a $799 program (or $20/month subscription). I tried Premiere Elements for a few hours and wasn't impressed with the performance, but perhaps I missed the right way to use it.

CS6 has a video editor... am still learing to navigate the new capabilities of both 5D mIII camera AND CS6, but watched a video this morning on editing. WOW! I'm itching to give it a try.... uh... just as soon as I figure out how to operate the video function of my camera. Ha ha ha. So far I've only accidentally managed to film my feet while I grumbled, "I'm not sure what the hell I'm doing." Soon... soon. This mornings video:

This was an evening well spent. I am curious how the videos turn out!

Super. Easy to follow, very informative and fun. I enjoyed making a video at the end.
