Pepernoten, traditionally Dutch cookies brought to us by Sinterklaas. On December 5th we celebrate Sinterklaas in the Netherlands. He and Zwarte Piet live in Spain during the year, so much smarter than living on the North Pole! They arrive by steamboat in the Netherlands. Sint has a list of good and bad children. The good children get presents, and pepernoten. The bad children get put in the bag where the presents arrive in, and get shipped to Spain, where they have to work in the Pepernoten Factory. However, if they have been really, really bad, they get fed into the oven of the factory and made into pepernoten.....
