The Hike to Ice Lake is ~6.5 mi. RT starting near 9,875 ft and ending near 12,300 ft. To get to the trailhead drive ~2 mi. north of Silverton and turn left (West) on South Mineral Creek Campground Rt. 585 and go ~ 4.5 miles (trailhead on right, North side of Rd).
The goal is to get to upper ice lake, however there is likely to be patches of snow above 11K ft. and snow pack above 12K ft. so it will all depend on how prepared the group is (turnaround at lower ice lake is alternate option if too much snow/ice on upper bench)
In addition to normal hiking gear, may want to bring boots for snow, gloves, wet shoes for creek crossing at 11.5K ft., hiking poles?
This hike will happen if there are at least 4 people signed up by 6PM Saturday. (cancelations for weather or low attendance will be announced by 7PM Sat. if necessary).
Meet at Durango Joes 40 Town Plaza location at 7AM for coffee and caravan or meet at the trailhead at 8:15 AM.
